Sybase Remotely Monitors and Manages Data Systems for T. Rowe Price

12/17/2003 - Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading provider of enterprise infrastructure and mobile software, announced that T. Rowe Price, a global investment management firm, signed a five-year agreement for Sybase’s Remote Enterprise Management Outsourcing (REMO) services to monitor and manage its investment division’s complex data management systems, which includes Sybase® Adaptive Server® Enterprise, an enterprise-class relational data management system; Sybase Replication Server®, heterogeneous data replication technology; Sybase SQL Anywhere® Studio, the market-leading database for mobile, embedded and small to medium sized business environments; and Microsoft SQL Server. Sybase REMO enables T. Rowe Price to increase efficiency of its critical systems including, global equity and fixed income trading platforms, straight through processing control architecture, back office portfolio accounting, and performance measurement system, as well as various analytical and reporting systems.

“We began a pilot program in our investment division for Sybase REMO earlier this summer and were quickly impressed with the quality of the service,” said Doren Jacobs, vice president, T. Rowe Price Investment Technologies, Inc. “Sybase brought new tools, highly skilled people and improved processes to help solve the problems we faced managing a multi-vendor data center infrastructure, and to improve our overall database performance. REMO has enabled us to focus more of our efforts on future developmental activities rather than on the maintenance of our existing systems.”

REMO is a cross-platform, end-to-end software infrastructure operational support service that includes monitoring, alerting, reporting, problem resolution, performance management and day-to-day production administration including data collection, a common alerting console, a historical data store, and reporting. Sybase REMO helps enterprises manage and monitor key components of their software infrastructure, including operating systems, databases, application servers, Web servers and replication servers, more precisely and proactively. It allows users to achieve the benefit of having fewer emergency problems and a better performing system through high service levels with guaranteed response times.

“Through REMO, T. Rowe Price’s Investment Division has seen increased system performance and decreased database downtime, which should result in significant cost savings,” said David Lavanty, vice president, Worldwide Professional Services at Sybase. “More and more companies are choosing to outsource IT services as an effective alternative for managing IT infrastructure, including mission critical environments. Sybase REMO addresses this increasing demand with an offering that emphasizes industry-leading service level agreements and high levels of system performance and reliability while minimizing downtime. With Sybase’s Unwired Enterprise solutions, organizations are able to manage data for maximum value, enabling easy access to that data anytime, anywhere – REMO manages these solutions.”
