12/16/2003 - Mobileer has formed to provide the world with innovative chip-less polyphonic ringtone and audio solutions for mobile phones, PDAs, toys, low-cost musical instruments and other handheld devices. Focused exclusively on ringtone and audio technology, Mobileer will initially offer customers its ME1000, the chip-less polyphonic audio synthesis engine for mobile phones, PDAs, games and other hand-held devices.
In May 2003 the company’s polyphonic ringtone audio engine was licensed to Handspring, for use in their new TREO mobile phones. The software converts Standard General MIDI (SMF) files to an audio stream.
Mobileer, a private company was formed by the founding team of SoftSynth.com, which began operations in 1997. In the computer music industry, SoftSynth.com is known for its JSyn product for developing interactive computer music programs in Java.
Mobileer is led by a seasoned management team comprised of technology executives and music system designers. Phil Burk, an inventor, computer programmer and designer who specializes in interactive and experimental music systems assumes the position of Founder and VP Technology at Mobileer. Chief designer of Mobileer’s ME1000 product, he has a rich history in the worlds of computers and sound. Phil collaborated with Larry Polansky and David Rosenboom to develop HMSL, the Hierarchical Music Specification Language, which is used by composers world-wide to explore the boundaries of live computer music. Mr. Burk has contributed to academia and the business world by authoring numerous papers, teaching and taking on new challenges to combine techniques from the world of sound creation with techniques from computer software design.
Mobileer ringtone and audio software solutions initially convert Standard General MIDI (SMF) files to an audio stream. The ME1000 adds polyphonic ringtone capability to mobile phones, or musical capabilities to electronic toys, handheld devices, and other consumer products.
