12/16/2003 - NMS Communications (Nasdaq:NMSS) announced that mobile operator Hutchison Thailand's new service, Song4U, has been deployed by Sun Systems on a foundation of NMS technology (www.nmscommunications.com/solutions/PlatformProducts).
Hutchison customers with the Song4U service can select a song from a large number of choices, add a personal greeting, and send it to any phone number in Thailand, using an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system instead of the traditionaland cumbersomemethod of using the mobile phone keypad to find the song they want and issue commands. Customers can also specify date and time of message and song delivery, using a Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) browser and menu.
Aiming directly at the youth market, with the intent of dramatically increasing penetration and significantly growing revenues over the next twelve months, Hutchison Thailand has launched Song4U as the first of several innovative, easy-to-use mobile entertainment and value-added services under the "Hutch Cool" brand. Other Hutch Cool services to be offered include Hutch chat room, conferencing, news, and Thai text-to-speech.
Sun Systems developed CallStreamIVR, the WAP-enabled IVR system powering the Hutch Cool service, on NMS technology which integrated easily with the existing Hutchison network infrastructure, reduced time to market for Sun Systems and enabled rapid new service deployment and time-to-revenue for Hutchison. Sun Systems also chose NMS products for the scalability, flexibility and reliability they offer, especially important in light of Hutchison's aggressive penetration goals and new service deployment plans.
NMS has a record of providing hardware and software building blocks for some of the most innovative, future-proofed mobile voice, video and data services (www.nmscommunications.com/solutions/appdevelopers). Based on that record, Sun Systems chose NMS as the foundation for its CallStreamIVR system.
"Sun Systems is proud of its reputation for innovation in mobile services," said Natapong Jatabut, general manager, Sun Systems. "As we worked with Hutchison to understand their business objectives and plans for new services, NMS' feature-rich system building blocks, with their open, advanced technology, high reliability and scalability, were the logical choice for our Hutchison Thailand deployment. NMS has been a great partner, providing us with both the technology and the support to get the system and mobile entertainment service up and running in record time."
NMS building blocks for the CallStreamIVR system include the Convergence Generation (CG) 6000C Series full-function hardware and software configured specifically for IP-based communications, and the TX3220 Series/SS7 high performance data communications platforms (for information on the CG and TX Series products, see www.nmscommunications.com/solutions/OpenAccessOfferings.html). The NMS CG 6000C series provides high-density digital trunk interfaces combined with digital signal processing (DSP) resources for signaling and echo cancellation on a CompactPCI (cPCI) board set. The high density of trunks saves valuable cPCI slots in the large, high-availability environments of service providers for switches and enhanced services.
NMS' TX 3220C, also in cPCI form factor, is one of a series of innovative, high-performance data communications platforms from NMS that support SS7 call control applications with a set of switch-specific and high availability extensions that meet service provider requirements and facilitate worldwide deployments and interoperability. SS7 is often used as the signaling protocol for voice over IP gateway applications and enhanced messaging services, including one-number/follow-me, chat and conferencing.
