Fujitsu Unveils Cost-Effective Solution for Carrier-Voice Migration
12/12/2003 - Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe Ltd, the leading supplier of high performance telecommunications solutions, has unveiled a cost-effective, integrated solution for migrating legacy carrier-voice services to broadband. With Fujitsu's new GeoStream Integrated Voice and Data ADSL Line Card (IV-LCSS), the same exchange equipment supports conventional and broadband services concurrently. This ensures that traditional voice revenues can be generated from a new network platform without any customer disruption. For voice-only customers, the upgrade process to broadband is handled by straightforward remote configuration, eliminating the need for engineer intervention at the exchange. With the IV-LCSS, the door is also opened on a cross-section of innovative possibilities, such as customers enabling their broadband access via the web, and the integration of voice and data services.
Fujitsu has designed the IV-LCSS to fit into any slot on its existing widely deployed multi-service access node equipment - the GeoStream Access Gateway. It allows the termination and packetisation of the baseband POTS, enabling voice traffic to be transported via the packet-based network. In effect, Fujitsu's IV-LCSS provides a single solution that eliminates three existing line cards - the external splitter card, ADSL line card and the existing POTS line card - combining major cost savings with a fast, efficient migration solution.
In summary, the Fujitsu IV-LCSS provides the following key features:
- supports from 31 subscriber lines per unit
- line provisioning is totally flexible - ADSL only, POTS only, or both ADSL and POTS
- baseband voice and signalling is packetised, with the analogue POTS terminated in the IV-LCSS
- works with existing analogue POTS telephone handsets, fax machines etc.
- software configurable to support VoIP and VoATM packetisation
- acts as an access media gateway, under the control of a soft switch platform via open interfaces
- fully compliant with international telecommunications standards
The IV-LCSS allows network operators to migrate their customers' baseband voice traffic onto the broadband network - without having to visit the customer or change any existing CPE.
Fujitsu's GeoStream Access Gateway
A complete multi-service access solution, Fujitsu's GeoStream Access Gateway interfaces to the widest range of access technologies and provides aggregation for IP, Ethernet, ATM, TDM and POTS services over copper, direct fibre, PON and wireless. Incorporating media gateway functionality with standards-based external control interfaces, GeoStream Access Gateway provides an ideal platform for PSTN evolution to the Next Generation Network. With combined packet and TDM capabilities, GeoStream Access Gateway can support the migration of services from legacy networks to the new core.
