12/12/2003 - TriQuint Semiconductor, Inc. (Nasdaq: TQNT) announced receipt of first purchase orders from a major Korean handset manufacturer for its Model 890035 triplexer–an integrated, front-end solution for CDMA wireless phones. A triplexer is a passive filter module that allows the simultaneous use of a single antenna for both CDMA and GPS bands, reducing component count and design complexity while freeing handset board space.
“We are excited about the launch of the triplexer module and are experiencing strong interest from our key customers. This purchase order from a major Korean manufacturer is the ‘first fruits’ of our technology investment,” said Brian Balut, TriQuint Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “The addition of the triplexer to our product portfolio provides the potential for more dollar content to TriQuint in next generation CDMA handsets than the receivers in older, super-heterodyne architecture phones and provides significant opportunity for growth.”
The TriQuint triplexer is an integrated front-end module for CDMA handsets operating in Cellular, GPS and PCS bands. This passive filter module has a form factor of just 4.0x4.0x1.4mm, yet it contains an ultra-miniature GPS SAW filter custom designed to interact with passive low- and high-pass filtering networks providing exceptional performance. The module does not require the use of any external matching components or circuits.
TriQuint’s new module completes the company’s initiative to offer both industry standard approaches for routing the antenna to the PCS duplexer, the cellular duplexer and the GPS receiver in CDMA handsets. The triplexer (and TriQuint’s CDMA SP3T switch) both feature low-loss performance and offer designers the choice of a discrete or integrated solution. The TriQuint triplexer uses less board space and provides equivalent electrical performance.
“Our triplexer offers an effective solution for manufacturers who prefer a passive, integrated alternative in their CDMA designs. Its many benefits include less complexity, lower current consumption, and a shorter bill of material – all in a smaller form factor with exceptional electrical performance. This module sale further demonstrates marketplace acceptance of TriQuint’s technology portfolio strategy and fulfills our promise to offer designers both a discrete and an integrated solution,” Balut added.
