Corrent, IP Infusion Transform Intel Servers into Security Appliances

12/11/2003 - Corrent Corporation, the price/performance leader in network security technology, and IP Infusion, a leading provider of intelligent network software for enhanced IP services, announced that the Corrent® S3500 Turbocard and IP Infusion® ZebOS® Server Routing Suite (SRS) work together seamlessly to enable enterprise-class, fully routed multi-gigabit security appliances using open server platforms. The Corrent S3500 and IP Infusion ZebOS SRS can both be installed into a Intel-based server running Check Point SecurePlatform and quickly transform it into a multi-purpose appliance with world-class firewall/VPN protection and advanced, commercially-supported routing and network failover functionality, making it suitable for the most demanding enterprises, service providers and data centers. This combined solution delivers industry-leading performance, reliability, and flexibility in an open server platform at half the cost of purpose-built security appliances.

Enterprise customers will be able to quickly turn an Intel-based server platform into a high-end security appliance with dynamic routing functionality. This consolidated routing, firewall and VPN appliance will improve scalability and manageability while significantly reducing hardware and IT costs.

“In order to block the internal spread of worms and other attacks, firewalls must now be deployed at multiple levels of an enterprise, not just at the edges of the network,” said Corrent Chief Technology Officer, John Davis. “Organizations need to segment their networks to protect valuable assets such as factories, warehouses, labs, and offices. To be practical, though, any security solution must also be fast, reliable, and affordable. High availability is a must, not just for the appliance, but for the entire network path, a capability ZebOS provides for the Turbocard. Corrent is excited that we were able to work with IP Infusion and Check Point to deliver a price/performance breakthrough in security while ensuring maximum network availability.”

“Our enterprise customers are constantly looking for ways to simplify the cost and complexity of their IT infrastructure while maintaining the highest level of network security and high availability. The ZebOS Server Routing Suite in conjunction with the Corrent S3500 Turbocard provide these customers with a robust, sophisticated and cost-effective solution that addresses their network security and routing needs,” said Gary Hemminger, Vice President of Marketing for IP Infusion. “We look forward to working together with Corrent to supply customers with scalable building blocks to transform open systems into highly reliable and advanced platforms.”

The Corrent S3500 Turbocard is a 64-bit PCI, IPSec firewall/VPN device that completely offloads security processing from the host CPU using optimized drivers for Check Point NG with Application Intelligence. The card has three Gigabit Ethernet ports and incorporates two processors: a Corrent® 7120 security processor handles all IPSec VPN processing, while concurrently, an IBM NP4GS3 network processor handles firewall packet level processing and connections. The result is line-rate throughput for both Firewall (2.8 Gbps) and VPN (2.4 Gbps) traffic regardless of packet size.

The ZebOS SRS product line is an easy-to-install software application that includes ZebOS SRS Standard Edition for routing, multicast and MPLS-VPN applications on standard servers and appliances and ZebOS SRS Secure Edition for integrated routing with Check Point VPN-1/FireWall-1. ZebOS SRS Standard Edition provides IPv4 and IPv6 routing, MPLS-VPN switching, PIM-SM multicast and network failover support for Linux, Solaris and FreeBSD operating systems. ZebOS SRS Secure Edition offers IPv4 RIP, OSPF, and BGP routing that is OPSEC certified for Linux, Solaris and Check Point SecurePlatform operating systems.

The Corrent S3500 Turbocard is sold directly by Check Point under its SecureXL Turbocard brand with an MSRP of $15,000. The ZebOS Server Routing Suite can be purchased from IP Infusion. A 30-day evaluation of ZebOS SRS is available for download at: For further details, please visit, email, or call 408.794.1500.
