Avnet, Philips Implement RosettaNet's Partner Interface Processes

12/10/2003 - Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet Inc. (NYSE:AVT), announces the successful implementation of RosettaNet's Partner Interface Processes(R) (PIPs(R)) 5C1, 5C2, 5C3 and 5C4 with Philips Semiconductors. Avnet and Philips have successfully begun exchanging design-win data using the new RosettaNet 5C series PIPs, which enable faster, more accurate tracking of designs using Philips Semiconductors' components. The data exchange has begun as an Americas-based program, with plans to address other global regions later.

The implementation of the 5C1 provides customers with practically real-time information about the latest products from Philips, when they connect with Avnet Electronics Marketing. Traditionally, component manufacturers provide this information in a batch mode with updates done on a monthly or quarterly basis. New product information from Philips will now be visible at Avnet as soon as it is announced.

"This implementation with Philips Semiconductors is another example of our focus on increased ease-of-doing-business within the design space," said Andy Bryant, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing. "Most importantly, to our customers, this new seamless process provides better visibility into critical information necessary for them to effectively control their design activities; from tracking prototype requirements to avoiding potentially damaging issues related to frequent product change notifications (PCNs) common with new product introductions."

"This project with Avnet is our first RosettaNet 5C Series PIP implementation," explained Dave Esto, Philips Semiconductors' director, Channel Sales & Marketing, Americas. "It has been years in the making. RosettaNet 5C PIPs will not only enhance the quality of the information moving between the two companies, but will streamline our entire design registration process with Avnet Electronics Marketing."

RosettaNet's Cluster 5, Marketing Information Management, focuses on design registration with suppliers, including requests for design-win registration at different phases of the design cycle and award of win based on predefined criteria. This important initiative helps both suppliers and distributors standardize processes and eliminate program alignment inefficiencies. By building an automated process, Avnet's suppliers and customers can streamline what is now a manual, labor-intensive and error-prone system.
