Domosys Unveils PowerBus Technology v3.0 for Master/Slave Topology

12/8/2003 - Domosys Corporation announced the release of its PowerBus Technology version 3.0 for Master/Slave topology. This release is of the latest PowerBus Technology firmware that is embedded in the industry leading U-Chip® integrated circuits from Domosys. The PowerBus software tools are also updated with this version.

The PowerBus Technology Version 3.0 was developed in response to customer requirements for increased system reliability and other desired features. The PowerBus Master/Slave topology is namely used in applications in which there are large number of slaves per master, and no need for slaves to communicate with each other. Automated Meter Reading (AMR), which requires support for multiple meters (slaves) per gateway (master), is an example of such an application. Master/Slave topology is also used effectively in Street Lighting, Energy Management and other Building Automation applications.

One of the main enhancements found in PowerBus v3.0 is the increase of the number of slaves (up to 1,021) supported per master node. This lowers the total system cost by reducing the number of master nodes required per system and their associated infrastructure. Asian and European AMR solutions may require up to 1000 slaves per substations and PowerBus Technology can now ably meet this need. As well, the Master/Slave routing mechanism is now faster to allow it to better serve these larger networks. Many other features were added or improved to provide a yet more effective control networking platform to the market. “Having our technology chosen by companies around the world, and following them closely from trials to deployment has provided invaluable feedback to our engineering department,” said Pierre Longtin, Domosys Vice President of Engineering. “Because of our U-Chip IC platform and its large flash memory, we are unique in our industry in being able to convert such feedback into an enhanced version of our technology so quickly. We intend to give our customers the benefits of this flexibility for many years to come.”

The PowerBus tool set was also augmented in the release with the PowerBus Burn-in Tool. This software tool provides facilities to not only test development units but also to be part of the manufacturing process for the burn-in and manufacturing tests. This Burn-in tool is also available for the Peer-to-Peer topology version of Power Bus Technology.

About Domosys
Founded in 1994, Domosys Corporation is a leading provider of control networking technology to the residential, utility and commercial markets. The company provides a complete portfolio of products and services, such as transceivers and development software, required by Original Equipment Manufacturers (“OEMs”) to successfully develop and market products for control networks. Domosys’ communication technology transforms any stand-alone product into a device that can be controlled or monitored either locally or remotely over the Internet. Utilizing narrow-band transceivers, signals are sent and received over existing power lines or twisted pair wires, reducing the need for new wires or infrastructure to be built.

Domosys Corporation is a privately held corporation based in Quebec City, Canada. To learn more about Domosys and its products and services, visit the company’s Web site at
