National Instruments Gains DSP Tools by Acquiring Hyperception

12/4/2003 - National Instruments announced the acquisition of Dallas, Texas-based software developer Hyperception, a leading designer of graphical development tools for digital signal processing (DSP). Hyperception software uses a graphical system design methodology to generate embedded code for industry-leading DSP chips including Texas Instruments C2000/C3000/C5000/C6000 DSP families and the SHARC/Blackfin DSP families from Analog Devices.

"Hyperception DSP technology and patented NI LabVIEW software are very similar in their graphical development methodology," said Mihir Ravel, vice president of technology and corporate development for National Instruments. "Integrating the Hyperception DSP tools into our LabVIEW graphical software platform delivers a much more conducive environment for embedded DSP application development that can span the entire design-to-test cycle."

The acquisition strengthens National Instruments position as a leader in graphical development tools for design and test engineers, and offers enhanced capabilities for the NI LabVIEW platform to directly target embedded signal processing applications. Jim Zachman, president of Hyperception, explained, "Our deep investment in graphical DSP technology over the past 20 years, combined with the wide product appeal of the NI LabVIEW platform, will help a new generation of engineers integrate DSP into a variety of innovative applications."

NI will continue to operate Hyperception as a separate company in Dallas as the development teams work to integrate the products and knowledge base of the two companies. As a wholly owned subsidiary of NI, Hyperception will continue to develop and offer its complete line of graphical development software for DSP applications as well as directly support educational initiatives with uninterrupted support to participating schools.
