Digi Rolls Out Enterprise Class CM 48 Console Server with 48 Ports

12/3/2003 - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII), the leader in Connectware, announced the expansion of its Digi CMTM console server line to include the new Digi CM 48 console server – a secure 48-port console server designed for use in large-scale deployments of data center equipment. Digi also recently entered into an agreement with Rackable Systems and will provide its new Digi CM 48 for use in Rackable System’s large-scale data center rack systems.

"Digi shares our commitment to providing customers with innovative, flexible and cost effective solutions," said Tom Barton, CEO, Rackable Systems. "The density, security and configurability provided by Digi's 48-port console server can help us deploy increasingly sophisticated server clusters into the most complex data center environments. Ease-of-use, performance and quality were also key factors in making Digi console servers available with our systems."

The new Digi CM 48 is an enterprise class console server and is available in three models – a 48-port model with single AC power, a 48-port model with dual AC power and a 48-port model with dual input DC power. Digi CM products make it easy for administrators to securely monitor and control servers, routers, switches and other network devices from anywhere on the corporate TCP/IP network, over the Internet or through dial-up modem connections, even when the server is unavailable through the network.

Digi CM console servers are Sun, Cisco, IBM, HP, Unix, Linux and Microsoft Windows Server 2003 compatible and feature out-of-band management for UNIX servers, Windows Server 2003 systems, Cisco routers and other network equipment. Digi CM connects to serial console ports using standard CAT5 cables, eliminating the hassles of custom cabling. Digi CM also offers a PCMCIA card slot for adding dial-up modems, wireless network cards, or flash memory cards which can be used to save port logs and backup configuration files. Digi CM is available in eight, 16, 32 and 48-port models in a 1U rack-mount form factor.

“The Digi CM 48 server extends our line of console servers by providing a higher density solution to meet the needs of key customers like Rackable Systems,” said Joseph Dunsmore, CEO, Digi International. “Our industry-leading console management server line maximizes server uptime, increases IT efficiency and improves our customers’ bottom line.”

Digi International is a leading provider of out-of-band console management solutions with more than 10 years out-of-band management experience. Out-of-band management solutions provide an alternative route to network equipment separate from the corporate network. An out-of-band management connection through a serial console port creates a reliable way to reach servers under nearly any circumstance. Out-of-band management does not replace in-band management – it provides system administrators the ability to quickly respond to situations when standard tools are not available. This enables faster response times which translate into increased uptime.
