12/3/2003 - Performance Technologies (Nasdaq NM: PTIX) announced Fusion Telecommunications International (FTI), a specialized international communications carrier, is using the company's SEGwayTM 1100 Link Replacement devices to enable SS7 over IP telecom connectivity across fifteen countries.
FTI offers communications and Internet technologies in newly developing markets in the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. The company provides the transport of international voice, Internet access, private networks and videoconferencing services between the United States and these emerging markets to corporations, telecommunications carriers, Internet service providers and application service providers.
For telecom carriers, the Performance Technologies SEGway 1100 Link Replacement device is designed to reduce the leasing and provisioning costs associated with dedicated long haul SS7 links. These devices are co-located with wireless or wireline network entities such as Switching Service Points (SSP) and Signal Transfer Points (STP) to reliably transport SS7 messages over managed, shared-use IP networks rather than over dedicated SS7 links.
"Our target customers are in global locations not typically well served by traditional, circuit-based telephone networks. To deploy such networks in these locations would be extremely costly to us and ultimately the end customer," said Matthew Rosen, president and chief operating officer of FTI. "Performance Technologies' SEGway Link Replacement devices allow us to transport critical SS7 messages onto ubiquitous and low-cost IP networks, eliminating the need for circuit-switched network provisioning. The SEGway devices are enabling us to service these markets at a much lower cost and with the same high levels of reliability as with traditional networks. This affords us the opportunity to provide end-to-end managed services that our global customers can count on for unsurpassed quality and support."
"Our SEGway devices play a major role in the development of communications infrastructures in emerging countries around the globe," said Jean Pierre Filion, vice president of worldwide sales for Performance Technologies. "We will continue to serve as a leading edge developer of such innovative products to further ensure the economical and reliable transport of signaling communications to every corner of the world."
