12/2/2003 - Concurrent Computer Corporation (NASDAQ: CCUR), Integrated Systems Division, announced that AAI Engineering Support has received Concurrent’s new Series 900 Power HawkTM systems for the C-17 Maintenance Trainer application.
AAI Engineering Support, a wholly-owned subsidiary of AAI Corporation, provides high-fidelity maintenance training technology to government and commercial customers worldwide. Innovative, hands-on, mission-ready maintenance trainer solutions are an AAI Engineering Support hallmark. The company will use the Concurrent Power Hawk Model 920 systems for a simulation application that demands real-time performance unattainable with a standard PC solution.
The Power Hawk Series 900 is the latest member of Concurrent's family of PowerPCTM-based 6U VME platforms. Each Series 900 CPU includes three levels of cache, including a 2 MB L3. The system also features an advanced, single-chip DiscoveryTM system controller for very fast memory and I/O throughput, three on-board Ethernet controllers and dual PCI I/O busses. Supported by Concurrent's PowerMAX UNIX®-based OS real-time operating system, the Series 900 offers the performance, determinism and guaranteed response required by time-critical applications. The Series 900 is fully application software compatible with previous generation Power Hawk systems, thus offering a convenient upgrade path for existing users.
Concurrent utilized its 37 years of real-time experience to provide the performance required by AAI Engineering Support's mission-critical trainer application. Important features of the delivered systems include Ada 95 language support, real-time clocks, shared memory and guaranteed response to external events. The systems were fully integrated by Concurrent and include a wide range of VME controllers including analog input and output, digital I/O, MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, reflective memory, and serial I/O. Task scheduling, communication and execution is readily accomplished by the PowerMAX OSTM real-time operating system.
“AAI Engineering Support successfully deployed an earlier generation of Concurrent Power Hawks. The new Power Hawk 920 is a perfect fit for our need for a higher performance, open system that meets our life cycle cost requirements,” said David Warner, AAI Engineering Support's Director of Charleston Operations. "Concurrent has demonstrated the ability to quickly customize solutions as needed, and its systems also support commercial-off-the-shelf products," he added. "This superior technology, combined with Concurrent’s ability to deliver a total solution with excellent customer support, made Concurrent a clear choice for our simulation application."
“We are very pleased to be selected for this critical program and look forward to delivering future Power Hawk systems to AAI Engineering Support,” stated Rob Menzel, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Concurrent's Integrated Solutions Division. He added, “We look forward to continuing our relationship and providing the solutions necessary for their sophisticated training systems.”
