ATEME Rolls Out Kompressor Multi-DSP PCI Boards with Video-Audio

12/1/2003 - ATEME unveils a new solution brick, queen of high-end compression quality and performances. The Kompressor Family is a short-form PCI board, with video and audio input/output, which embed multiple Texas Instruments DSPs and Altera FPGAs to execute high-end compression algorithms from Ateme growing library.

It becomes the "best buy" for complete audio and video compression, to integrate into final systems, to use stand-alone, or to be customized.

The Kompressor application domains are multiple, where quality and performance are required, with high-end D1 live encoding, multi-channel encoding, pre and post-processing, high-end videoconferencing, tele-medecine, video transmission or storage, etc.

The Kompressor AMK400 has analog audio video inputs, when the AMK420 has digital SDI + AES inputs. The analog audio & video output enables quality monitoring after decompression. The board can also be used to compress streams coming from the PCI bus.

The board is delivered in a full package, comprizing MPEG-4 SP video encoder and AAC audio encoder licences, complete PC software with windows driver, control application and player, cable adapters, user documentation. A PC SDK is also available for OEM and integrators, with examples in source code and running applications in demo versions.

Kompressor is the best value for OEMs and integrators, enabling them an easy personalization in a short time, to integrate it as a brick of a complete solution, or as a packaged product. Ateme also offers its design services for solution application development and custom hardware design and production, for example stand-alone or embedded boards.

The AMK400 has been positively validated with full D1 MPEG-4 SP and ASP encoding, plus multi-channel audio With the Kompressor, Ateme also delivers a new V4.0 version of its MPEG-4 compression algorithm, with SP and ASP profiles, encompassing full ISO/14496-2/3 compatibility, and state of the art audio, High Efficiency AAC in MPEG (AAC-Plus). Ateme Algorithms are also available on several TI DSPs and on PC platform.

The Kompressor board decreases the risk of obsolescence with its software implementation of encoders, and may be used in the future for other compression standards (H264, JPEG2000, etc…). The AMK400 is also running full D1 MPEG-2 compression plus audio, or other compression algorithms in Ateme's growing portfolio.

The Kompressor AMK400 is demonstrated at IBC on ATEME's partners stands, in parallel on TI booth (hall 1 / Booth 371) and on Altera booth (stands 11.749).

The demonstration consists in encoding analog video and audio from a DVD player with a Kompressor AMK420 board integrated in a rack PC, with streaming to an ATEME NVDK decoder board for analog restitution.
