Finnet's Backbone Gets Bigger with Ericsson's Packet Backbone Network

11/26/2003 - Finnet is expanding its IP backbone network with Ericsson's Packet Backbone Network (PBN) solution, equipped with Juniper Networks routing products. The network expansion will enable Finnet's network operator, Finnish 2G Ltd., to handle increased data traffic while increasing the network's reliability and availability.

"Ericsson's Packet Backbone Network solution, together with Juniper Networks routing products, meets Finnet's growing IP network demands for speed, reliability and scalability," explains Seppo Hänninen, managing director of Finnish 2G. "With this solution, we can provide optimal data connections to our customers - irrespective of their location."

The new IP network transmits voice, data and multimedia services at speeds of up to 10 Gbit/s.

Ericsson's PBN solution for Finnish 2G includes Juniper Networks routing products and related maintenance services provided by Ericsson. Ericsson's PBN offering also includes network management and professional services. Juniper Networks products are well-suited for new and extended IP networks requiring scalability, high capacity and the delivery of new IP services.

The contract between Ericsson and Finnet covers implementation of the Juniper Networks routing products, system support and product warranty services. Construction began last spring, and the network has been in commercial service since summer 2003.

Ericsson is shaping the future of Mobile and Broadband Internet communications through its continuous technology leadership. Providing innovative solutions in more than 140 countries, Ericsson is helping to create the most powerful communication companies in the world.
