VISTA Controls, DNA Computing Offer Rugged Integrated DSP Sub-Systems

11/24/2003 - VISTA Controls, a wholly owned subsidiary of Curtiss-Wright Corporation (NYSE: CW; CW.B), and a leading manufacturer of mission critical systems for military and severe environment applications, has announced a technology licensing and marketing collaboration with DNA Computing Solutions, Richardson, Texas. A wholly owned subsidiary of TeraForce Technology Corporation (OTCBB: TERA), DNA is a leading supplier of high-performance, real-time Digital Signal Processing (DSP) systems for the military, aerospace and semiconductor manufacturing markets.

The financial and product agreement between the companies calls for VISTA Controls to develop conduction-cooled versions of DNA Computing Solutions’ products under a technology-licensing program. The two companies will collaborate in utilizing their respective capabilities to develop, deliver and support rugged, system-level solutions for signal processing applications such as radar, sonar, intelligence gathering, avionics and intelligent munitions for manned and unmanned vehicles.

The firms will also jointly market the newly developed products.

“We are excited about the prospects this new relationship affords,” commented Dr. R. Eugene Helms, president and CEO of DNA Computing Solutions. “The proven expertise of VISTA Controls in ruggedization of COTS products, coupled with the knowledge of embedded computing applications and architectures at DNA, make a potent combination. The integrated capabilities that emerge from this alliance should open the door to new opportunities for us to deploy system-level solutions in harsh environments.”

DNA will continue to extend and utilize its broad range of PowerPC®-based quad, dual and user-configurable FPGA-based DSP processor products, software, DSP algorithm and math libraries, operating systems support and applications development capability. This will be combined with VISTA Controls’ wide range of rugged, Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS), processors, graphics, communications and I/O products and rugged chassis, coupled with its standards-based real-time software and non-volatile, solid-state mass storage devices.

The combination of the companies’ resources will enable rapid development and deployment of embedded computing systems for the military. It will also make an experienced industry and leading edge technology team available to customers to resolve component obsolescence issues and extend life cycles for legacy systems.

“The combination of VISTA Controls with DNA will bring new levels of expertise and support to our customers as they deal with the challenges of creating rugged, complex, high-performance systems,” said Darwin Beckel, president of VISTA Controls. “It puts us in an even better position to help customers solve system development challenges, as well as component obsolescence issues with our risk mitigation program, which will be a key differentiator in customer service.”

DNA’s engineering and sales expertise will be made available to VISTA Controls’ and its customers to provide assistance in solving applications issues and reducing development cycle times.
