Arima Notebooks, Tablets Turn into PDAs with Phoenix FirstWare Assistant

11/20/2003 - Phoenix Technologies Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTEC), the company driving the global core system software standard in PC systems and connected digital devices for 25 years, announced that Arima, a leading integrated service provider headquartered in Taiwan, has adopted Phoenix FirstWare Assistant into its Arima-branded and "white box" notebooks and tablet PCs.

The Phoenix application turns mobile devices into PDAs by allowing rapid-on access to Microsoft Outlook Personal Information Management (PIM) data, such as calendars, contacts and tasks. It also can be installed into the after-market, ensuring an additional revenue stream.

"Phoenix FirstWare Assistant brings tremendous value to our new notebooks and tablet PCs by increasing ease of use for the mobile user," said Ken Kan, Senior Vice President at Arima. "Our company's growth depends directly on providing our customers the most advanced and relevant technology as mobile computing becomes the standard. Phoenix innovations in core technology make it easy for us to strengthen our market position."

Phoenix FirstWare Assistant, part of the Phoenix Core Managed Environment™ (cME), is one of a range of products that are addressing the increasing needs of mobile users and creating new computing experiences. Effectively, FirstWare Assistant transforms the mobile PC into a PDA when the operating system is not launched, so the user is not required to carry and synchronize two devices. By incorporating Phoenix technology into its new notebooks and tablet PCs, Arima will increase the value of its product lines while reducing manufacturing costs.

"Arima understands that the digital market is becoming much more connected and mobile," said Timothy D. Eades, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Corporate Marketing and Product Division for Phoenix. "Therefore, people want devices that are more user-friendly, more secure, easier to connect, and simpler to manage. Phoenix FirstWare Assistant can be installed even in the after-market. We are on a mission to ensure that all the advantages of mobile computing are built into the core of every device."
