11/20/2003 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT), a global leader in storage solutions, announced that its iSCSI host bus adapters have achieved Designed for Windows logo qualification by Microsoft Corp. for iSCSI hardware devices. The qualification helps ensure interoperability of Adaptec's iSCSI solutions with Windows operating systems, enabling plug-and-play installation of low-cost, easy-to-manage IP storage area networks for email, database, disaster recovery, consolidation and other enterprise-level applications.
"Qualification of iSCSI solutions with Microsoft operating systems will help drive adoption of cost-effective IP storage area networks among the many small and midsize businesses that rely on Windows platforms," said Zane Adam, director of product management and marketing for the Enterprise Storage Division at Microsoft. "We are pleased to be working with Adaptec to bring the benefits of storage area networks to a much broader market."
"Achieving Microsoft's Designed for Windows logo qualification for iSCSI hardware extends Adaptec's commitment to delivering leading Windows-based storage solutions to our customers," said Ram Jayam, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Networking Group. "Qualification of our iSCSI adapters with Windows platforms is a milestone in our efforts to deliver advanced IP storage networking solutions that make it simple and inexpensive for companies to deploy high-performance, high-reliability SANs."
For original equipment manufacturers, Microsoft's Designed for Windows logo qualification has become a standard for ensuring computer hardware compatibility. The qualification of iSCSI solutions is a key step in driving the adoption of next-generation networked storage.
Adaptec worked with Microsoft to shape its iSCSI hardware initiator architecture. Over the past two years, Adaptec has also helped Microsoft build iSCSI reference implementations used for public demonstrations and validate Microsoft's Windows Management Interface for iSCSI. Adaptec's iSCSI solution is tightly integrated with the Microsoft iSCSI service and Microsoft's iSCSI architecture for Windows.
Small and midsize enterprises (SMEs) with growing storage demands need a cost-effective alternative to traditional SANs as they increasingly use email, databases, online transaction processing and other applications typically associated with larger organizations. Adaptec's iSCSI adapters leverage the proven performance of SCSI and the low cost of Ethernet to provide these companies with a simple, affordable way to deploy SANs for enterprise-level applications.
