11/20/2003 - Dolphin Interconnect announced a new sales promotion for users of the Sun Java (TM) System Cluster, formerly known as Sun Cluster, running Oracle Database with Real Application Clusters, which uses Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) cards and switches provided by Dolphin. This promotion reduces, by up to 50 percent, the license fees for Sun Cluster 3 agent licenses and the cost of the Dolphin SCI hardware purchased from Sun. With this promotion, the leading Unix® technology-based clustering solution is now more affordable than most clustering solutions running on Oracle giving users the ability to extract leading edge performance out of Oracle Real Application Clusters at lower cost.
"We're pleased to cooperate with Sun in this promotion, which is designed to extend the value of Sun System Cluster and Oracle 9 iRAC," said Keith Murphy, Dolphin sales VP. "This promotion underscores our basic premise of enabling very cost effective cluster solutions for high performance applications."
The promotion includes reduced pricing for customers who use Sun Java System Cluster with Oracle Real Application Clusters with SCI hardware. Complete information about the promotion is available on the Sun Microsystems web site at http://www.sun.com/clusters. A FAQ, including pricing, can be found at http://wwws.sun.com/software/cluster/faq_oracle_rac.html. Customers may take advantage of this promotion from now until April 28, 2004.
A white paper titled "Dolphin SCI & Sun Remote Shared Memory Speed Oracle9i RAC" explores the technical considerations and performance benefits that can be realized from the combination of the Sun, Oracle and Dolphin technologies related to the Sun promotion. The paper is available for downloading on the Dolphin web site at http://www.dolphinics.com/papers/abstract/sun-oracle.html. The paper presents a detailed discussion on how combining the reliability of Solaris and Oracle software with Sun and Dolphin hardware creates a solid technology base for Sun's Oracle9i RAC clusters. Key to the software technology is support for remote shared memory on the Dolphin SCI interconnects.
