Multi-Tech Connects Serial Devices with External IP Adapters

11/19/2003 - Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a leading data communications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, announces two new external products designed to provide IP connectivity for individual devices. The MultiConnect Model MTS2EA is a serial-to-Ethernet adapter that connects a serial device to an IP network over an industry standard Ethernet connection, and the MultiConnect Model MTS2SA is a serial-to-serial adapter that connects a non-IP serial device to the Internet. Both of these products are complete, ready-to-deploy units designed to add a full TCP/IP protocol stack to any equipment which does not have the capability to connect to the Internet, an intranet or other IP networks. There are models available to accommodate variable power sources and specific RS232 signaling requirements. MultiConnect models will start shipping this year with prices starting at an MSRP of US$139.00.

“With the Internet’s incredible reach being a business reality to every industry, there are new opportunities for Internet communications surfacing every day,” states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. “But often existing communications equipment cannot connect to an IP network. That’s where these two MultiConnect products come into play. They turn serial port equipment into IP capable equipment. Things like legacy modems still use applications that work just fine except for the inability to operate over the Internet. Applications like POS terminals, inventory counters, medical monitoring gear are all candidates for utilizing MultiConnect technology. These products will help adopt existing serial communication applications to Internet enabled applications at reasonable cost and in a time frame not possible if new equipment had to be integrated into the process.”

The MultiConnect Model MTS2EA is a complete, ready-to-integrate serial-to-Ethernet adapter with a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. It is used to connect serial interface equipped legacy devices to an IP network for remote monitoring, control and configuration. The MultiConnect adapter provides a high performance 10/100BaseT Ethernet bridge as well as a complete TCP/IP protocol stack. It supports DTE speeds to 230K bps, includes internal and external RS232 power options, has LED driver outputs, command line interface, flash memory and desktop or panel mounting.

MultiConnect Model MTS2SA is a complete, ready-to-integrate serial-to-serial adapter with a TCP/IP protocol stack that connects a non-IP serial device to the Internet via any serial interface. It supports DTE speeds to 230K bps, includes internal and external RS232 power options, has LED driver outputs, command line interface, flash memory and desktop or panel mounting.
