Cirrus Logic Unveils CS4351 Audio Converter with Integrated Line Drivers

11/19/2003 - Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) announced the latest in a series of new product introductions designed to strengthen the industry's leading product portfolio for analog and mixed signal audio components. In the market today, the CS4351 is the highest performance digital-to-analog (D/A) converter with integrated line drivers, allowing it to deliver premium audio quality and analog performance without costly off-chip circuitry.

The CS4351 is a single-chip, complete digital audio output system that simplifies design, reduces system and development costs and accelerates time to market for manufacturers of audio electronics. Consumer products such as DVD players and recorders, as well as professional audio products and automotive audio systems, can utilize this highly integrated audio D/A converter to reduce system cost by as much as 20 percent without sacrificing audio quality. The CS4351 is the company's 23rd new audio product released in the last 18 months.

The CS4351 is the industry's highest performance D/A converter to integrate the amplifier and filter stages, a process required to achieve the 2 VRMS line level output signal found in most consumer electronics. This integration allows the CS4351 to directly drive the outputs of audio products such as DVD players, allowing system designers to save valuable printed circuit-board space and significantly reduce the effort required to design the analog output section of their products. As a result, the CS4351 delivers audio performance equal to that found in solutions that require many additional components, including operational amplifiers, resistors and capacitors.

"This product reduces the difficulty of the board-level circuit design by eliminating the need for the external active filter, while at the same time delivering outstanding audio quality," said Jason Rhode, director of Analog Products Marketing, Cirrus Logic. "The CS4351 delivers premium audio quality and analog performance without costly off-chip circuitry. As the number-one digital audio chip supplier, Cirrus continues to develop innovative technology to benefit its customers and deliver leadership products that elevate the capabilities of device manufacturers worldwide."

The CS4351 utilizes a multi-bit Delta-Sigma architecture, operates from a 9 V or 12 V power supply and offers digital volume control with half dB step sizes and patented Popguard® technology for control of clicks and pops during power cycling. Achieving dynamic range performance of 108 dB and support for sample rates up to 192 kHz, the CS4351 is a highly integrated audio D/A converter that delivers the premium sound quality customers have come to expect from Cirrus.

Pricing and Availability
The CS4351 is available in a 20-pin, lead-free TSSOP package and is currently sampling to customers. The CS4351 is priced at $1.60 in quantities of 10,000.
