BSMART SOLUTIONS Selects Fastrax GPS Receivers for Access Terminals

11/19/2003 - Fastrax Ltd., a developer of OEM GPS receivers with industry-leading performance and feature set, and BSMART SOLUTIONS (M) SDN BHD, a leading provider of location based solutions (LBS) and wireless based business solutions situated in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, announced the inclusion of Fastrax GPS technology in BSMART’S new A Series Access Terminal. Named b’AT, the device will be commercially available through BSMART SOLUTIONS in December 2003.

BSMART’s b’AT devices are among the smallest in the market. With a form factor of 108 x 77 x 25 mm and weight of 125 grams, the devices are easily hidden out of sight to enable discreet tracking of vehicles, cargo and other valuable assets. The b’AT also features an embedded high-performance Fastrax GPS receiver along with an embedded GSM/GPRS modem. Improved communication features include an optional Bluetooth connection.

The positioning information for the b’AT is provided with a Fastrax iTrax02/8 GPS receiver, the lowest power consuming, programmable and one of the smallest 12-channel OEM GPS receivers on the market. Programmed with Fastrax iSuite SDK (Software Development Kit), the Fastrax iTrax02/8 with embedded 8 Mbit Flash memory is used as the b’AT CPU (Central Processing Unit). Axing the separate CPU both reduces component costs and improves reliability.

The b’AT records and transmits data about its location, direction and speed via the GSM/GPRS modem either continuously, in desired intervals, triggered by pre-programmed conditions or at request by the system operator. The data may also be stored in the device and downloaded to a PC when needed. With its generic core design, the b’AT is software configurable to suit in a wide range of applications.

“The b’AT is designed to provide real-time location data and enable continuous tracking. The data brings significant new value to our customers by increasing their supply chain efficiency and productivity along with improving service quality and shipment integrity”, said Stephen Teang, Managing Director, BSMART SOLUTIONS.

“The b’AT by BSMART SOLUTIONS is an innovative example of the wide variety of applications enabled by modern, software programmable GPS technology. Programmability allows new application architectures that are simpler, less expensive and more reliable. The ability to locate and track basically anything, anytime is a true benefit to a number of user groups, and opens up very promising market opportunities”, said Kim Kaisti, VP Business Development, Fastrax Ltd.

Fastrax’s product families of iTrax02 and iTrax03 series 12-channel OEM GPS receivers offer industry-leading benefits in performance, size, power consumption and versatility. The Fastrax iTrax02 and iTrax03 modules with iSuite navigation firmware enable the implementation of position-aware features into practically any appliance. The modules are ideally suited for both industrial tracking systems and small battery-operated products like mobile phones, asset tracking devices, handheld computers and sports accessories.

Designed for demanding conditions, Fastrax GPS technology offers industry-leading performance and reliability down to very low signal levels along with fast time to first fix (TTFF). The low power drain enables an extremely long operating time, a crucial factor in battery-operated devices.

The b’AT will be commercially available in December 2003 through BSMART SOLUTIONS and its partner network. Fastrax GPS receivers are globally available via a network of qualified distributors.

More information:

Global Positioning System (GPS) is a worldwide satellite navigation infrastructure funded and controlled by the U.S. Department of Defense, originally developed for U.S. military purposes. GPS provides satellite signals that enable GPS receivers to calculate their exact position and velocity. The GPS infrastructure has three segments. The space segment consists of 24 satellites that orbit the earth every 12 hours. The control segment consists of tracking stations located around the world, with the master control station located at Falcon Air Force Base in Colorado. The user segment consists of GPS receivers and users utilizing the information provided by the system. GPS is widely used in e.g. marine navigation.
