11/18/2003 - SAP AG (NYSE: SAP) and Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY) announced a worldwide agreement to deliver integrated solutions by aligning SAP® Business One with Sybase data management solutions for small and midsize businesses (SMBs). The agreement combines the strengths of SAP Business One, SAP’s new solution for companies with as few as five to as many as several hundred employees, with Sybase’s industrial-strength relational database management system, Adaptive Server® Enterprise (ASE).
Additionally, SAP and Sybase will embark to develop and market Sybase mobile solutions for SAP Business One customers. SAP Business One customers and partners around the globe will benefit from the alliance’s effective, affordable SMB solutions that will be tailored specifically to the needs of a range of vertical industries and geographic markets.
Under the agreement, SAP and Sybase will integrate SAP Business One with Sybase’s ASE data management solution. SAP will sell and distribute the combined offering through its worldwide partner distribution channels. Both companies will dedicate marketing, alliance and training resources to ensure the success of the partnership, while taking advantage of the global presence of the two companies to deliver the SAP Business One offering to customers in key markets worldwide.
SAP and Sybase plan to increase penetration in key vertical markets where both companies have a competitive edge—including financial services, healthcare, insurance and telecommunications—and offer SMBs in these verticals business management solutions that are uniquely customized to their company size and industry needs.
“Sybase technology is well respected across the world, and offers our customers another attractive database infrastructure for SAP Business One,” said Léo Apotheker, executive board member, SAP AG. “This agreement builds upon SAP’s successful track record of technology alliances that provide our customers with greater flexibility and choices in their operating environment. In addition, our alliance with Sybase will offer SAP Business One customers access to solutions that get business-critical information out to a mobile workforce.”
Designed specifically to be effective, affordable and easy to implement for SMBs, SAP Business One extends the benefits of SAP’s business solutions to the rapidly growing segment of small businesses. A comprehensive business-automation solution, SAP Business One provides business managers and employees with greater control and visibility for managing their entire operations. Available in 24 countries and more than 20 languages in its latest version, SAP Business One is a truly global SMB solution that enables new levels of integration between parent companies, their subsidiaries and the many partner, supplier and vendor companies that make up the business ecosystem.
Under the agreement, SAP and Sybase will leverage their combined geographic and vertical industry presence to offer the software and database infrastructure solution to customers and prospects beginning in the second quarter of 2004, in addition to offering Sybase mobile and wireless solutions.
“Sybase and SAP are committed to bringing a greater range of IT solution choices to the SMB market,” said John Chen, chairman, president and CEO of Sybase, Inc. “Now, SAP Business One customers will be able to take advantage of Sybase ASE, an industrial-strength data management system that has consistently proven to be a low-TCO leader. In addition, we are thrilled to partner with SAP on mobile and wireless capabilities for SAP Business One, which will bring the benefits of the unwired enterprise—including increased productivity and improved customer service—to small and mid-size businesses.”
