Digi Introduces USB PlusPower Technology at Comdex Las Vegas 2003

11/18/2003 - Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII), the leader in Connectware, announced that it will debut its new USB Plus Series of powered USB solutions at Comdex in the USB Pavilion at booth 8748. Digi will demonstrate USB PlusPower technology from major point-of-sale system manufacturers, including Wincor Nixdorf, Fujitsu, NCR, TPG, Symbol and Epson.

“USB PlusPower is the next big thing in retail systems technology, and we are aggressively developing products that leverage these benefits for retailers,” said Stephen Popovich, chief operating officer of Inside Out Networks, the division of Digi International that manufactures the products. “Powered USB is a natural fit for peripheral connections in a point-of-sale environment. The ability to supply power and connectivity provides merchandisers a great deal of flexibility in establishing and maintaining sophisticated and cost effective point-of-sales systems.”

The new USB Plus Series is a complete line of powered USB solutions designed to simplify retail operations by allowing powered USB peripheral devices to be used with a standard, low-cost PC. By eliminating power supply bricks for USB devices, the USB Plus Series saves space and simplifies system architecture. Available in card and hub solutions, the new line of powered USB products includes the HubportTM/4+, HubportTM/PCI+ and Edgeport®/42+.

Digi will also preview at Comdex its AnywhereUSB®/4+, an upcoming technology that network-enables powered USB devices via Digi’s patented USB Over IP® technology. This allows powered USB devices to be located anywhere on a wired or wireless LAN, eliminating the need for locally attached host PCs. AnywhereUSB/4+ features four powered USB ports, which enable powered USB devices to be centrally managed and monitored from a remote server or PC via an IP address.

“Through a mix of our complete line of powered USB products, retailers can now easily, and cost effectively, expand their retail systems to fulfill a wide range of point-of-sale applications,” said Joseph Dunsmore, CEO, Digi International. “The retail industry is a strong target vertical market for Digi, and we are consistently developing new technologies to maintain our position as a leading provider of retail technology networking solutions.”
