HP Rolls Out 40 Services and Software to Manage Adaptive Enterprise

11/17/2003 - Extending its Adaptive Enterprise strategy, HP (NYSE:HPQ) introduced more than 40 new management services and software products to help customers integrate heterogeneous technologies, cut information technology operations costs by up to 30 percent and increasingly automate responsiveness to real-time business demands.

The offerings are highlighted by several industry firsts, including the first cross-platform software for managing UNIX®, Linux and Windows® from a single console, the first pre-configured processes for IT service management and the first management platform for Web services.

HP's approach to adaptive management integrates people, process and technology to run IT as a business and automate the dynamic link between business and IT. Fueled by insights from more than 10,000 customer engagements, HP is now delivering its IT Service Management (ITSM) best practices with new certification programs and pre-configured process templates to help customers better align their IT strategies with business objectives.

The news also includes a global announcement with SAP AG to help large enterprises lower the total cost of IT operations and an acquisition of Persist Technologies, Inc., to deliver information lifecycle management software that actively manages information from creation to deletion.

ITSM Certification for Service Providers: A quality seal that can differentiate providers of IT, telecommunications, Internet and other services, maximizing the capabilities of the people, process and technology essential to service delivery.

HP Mission Critical Partnership: HP becomes a virtual extension of the IT department, providing a continuous improvement plan which reduces risk and increases agility, minimizing exposure to service disruption across the entire distributed IT infrastructure.

Process: HP best practices extend the value of management
HP has achieved significant momentum for its ITSM model, based on IT Information Library standards developed by the industry nearly 10 years ago. ITSM helps simplify, standardize and automate IT processes, while providing valuable best practices for transforming IT from a focus on technology management to business-driven service delivery. New best practices include:

HP ITSM Best Practices for HP OpenView Service Desk: A set of detailed out-of-the-box ITSM processes that are preconfigured for HP OpenView Service Desk, providing customers with 80 percent of what a company needs to transform the IT processes and leaving only 20 percent to be customized to fit unique needs, environment and culture.

Agility Assessment Services for IT Service Providers: Assesses the time, range and ease for implementing change across the IT operations and provides a benchmark for evaluating and planning IT's ability to take on the role of a service provider to the business.

SAP and HP ITSM Project: Leverages SAP's adaptive business service strategy and HP's industry-leading heterogeneous management solutions to provide enterprise customers worldwide with managed application environments.

Technology: HP software portfolio delivers top-to-bottom management
HP has a long heritage delivering management software and manageable systems for multi-vendor, multi-platform environments. Today's software extends that heritage by optimizing resource utilization so technology supply flows to meet business - from the fan and blue light in a rack-mounted server to systems, event and network management, to complete data center provisioning and deployment. New software offerings include:

HP Systems Insight Manager: New, comprehensive cross-platform management software that brings together the strengths of HP Insight Manager 7, HP TopTools and HP Service Control Manager to offer increased systems-level stability and agility. The solution unifies the management of HP ProLiant, Integrity and HP 9000 servers and accommodates plug-ins for client, storage, printer and power management as well as ProLiant Essentials and HP-UX value added software. HP Systems Insight Manager integrates with HP OpenView Operations and OpenView Network Node Manager.

HP OpenView Management Integration Platform: New software that integrates management information, based in part on HP's acquisition of Talking Blocks technology. Initially focused on the management of Web services and service-oriented architectures, the offering is a strategic "on ramp" for adaptive management solutions. In the future, it will integrate management information from multiple management domains, serving as a foundation for creating an integrated management system that offers customers better correlation and greater predictive capabilities across the enterprise.

HP OpenView Select Access: New identity management software and services based in part on HP's acquisition of SelectAccess assets from Baltimore Technologies. It authorizes, authenticates and facilitates user access to information across applications and IT services, increasing productivity and reducing exposure to threats by hackers and other unauthorized users.

HP OpenView Operations: Enhanced management software that monitors, controls and reports the health of the IT environment across boundaries, thereby improving uptime for all layers that constitute today's enterprise IT environments, including network, systems, databases, applications, services and the Internet.

HP Web Jetadmin 7.5: Provides sophisticated fleet management benefits, including improved security and increased flexibility to schedule firmware updates during non-peak times. HP Web Jetadmin enables IT administrators to remotely install, monitor and troubleshoot network-connected HP and non-HP devices, as well as update print devices across an enterprise from their desks with a standard Web browser. HP Web Jetadmin integrates with HP Systems Insight Manager to give IT managers a view of their entire IT environment, including printing assets.

Expanding HP's management capabilities, leading software vendors such as BEA, Cisco, Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, TIBCO and webMethods are working with HP to jointly deliver enterprise solutions that enable customers to make faster, smarter IT decisions within their rapidly changing, distributed business environments. In addition, 28 new independent software vendors have recently joined HP's solution alliance program to expand the depth of management capabilities available to enterprise customers.
