11/11/2003 - Mellanox® Technologies Ltd., the leader in InfiniBandSM solutions, announced the MTS2400 InfiniBand switch system powered by third generation InfiniScaleTM III silicon - the first switch of its kind to deliver 30Gb/sec links. The MTS2400 is a high performance, ultra-low latency switch, offering enterprise customers an industry leading 480 Gb/sec non-blocking aggregate switching capacity and wire-speed forwarding for all twenty-four 10 Gb/sec ports. This capability is implemented in a compact 1U platform with the option to support up to eight 30 Gb/sec links. Offering the best price/performance of any enterprise center class switch in the industry, the MTS2400 is designed for creating low cost, high performance compute clusters from industry standard servers. These clusters enable new attractive levels of pricing with record performance for data base applications and high performance computing.
Thanks to the highly integrated 3rd generation InfiniScale III device with integrated physical layer and management, the MTS2400 is designed and built from a single InfiniScale III device in a compact, 1U form factor that consumes less than 50 Watts. Competing 10 Gb/sec switches donít come close to matching the MTS2400 in price; 10 Gb/sec Ethernet switches average more than 20 times the price of 10 Gb/sec InfiniBand. In fact, with end-user per port pricing expected to be below $400, 10Gb/sec InfiniBand is less expensive than 2 Gb/sec Fibre Channel switches and non-blocking 1Gb/sec Ethernet switches.
The MTS2400 is optimized for building flexible, scalable, robust and reliable InfiniBand fabrics for the server, storage, embedded, enterprise data center and high performance computing (HPC) markets. The switch offers reliability and intelligent manageability features that include built-in Quality-of-Service, chassis monitoring, and comprehensive redundancy resulting in enterprise levels of operational performance and fault tolerance.
"Based on 3rd generation silicon, the MTS2400 is a revolutionary product for InfiniBand," said Yuval Leader, vice president of systems solutions, Mellanox Technologies. "Mellanox has built a switch that has 3 times the number of ports than the previous generation switch in the same 1U form factor. It is the perfect switch for both the enterprise data center and high performance computing markets with a price that will drive volume in the market."
"The combination of high performance and affordable prices makes InfiniBand the technology to beat in HPC applications," commented Nathan Brookwood, principal analyst at Insight 64 in Saratoga, CA. "This new Mellanox switch breaks the $400 per port price barrier, and will add to InfiniBand's momentum in the increasingly popular clustered configurations favored by HPC and enterprise customers."
The MTS2400 switch is currently available to Mellanox OEM partners. General availability from these partners is expected in early Q1, 2004.
InfiniBand is the only 10 Gb/sec ultra low latency clustering, communication, storage and embedded interconnect in the market today. InfiniBand, based on an industry standard, provides the most robust data center interconnect solution available with reliability, availability, serviceability and manageability features designed from the ground up. These parameters greatly reduce total cost of ownership for the data center. Low cost InfiniBand silicon that supports 10 Gb/sec RDMA transfers is shipping today providing eight times the bandwidth of Ethernet and three times the bandwidth of proprietary clustering interconnects. With an approved specification for 30 Gb/sec, InfiniBand is at least a generation ahead of competing fabric technologies today and in the foreseeable future.
Mellanox is the leading supplier of InfiniBand semiconductors, providing complete solutions including switches, host channel adapters, and target channel adapters to the server, communications, data storage, and embedded markets. Mellanox Technologies has delivered more than 100,000 InfiniBand ports over two generations of 10 Gb/sec InfiniBand devices including the InfiniBridge, InfiniScale and InfiniHost devices. Mellanox InfiniBand interconnect solutions today provide over eight times the performance of Ethernet, and over three times the performance of proprietary interconnects. The company has strong backing from corporate investors including Dell, IBM, Intel Capital, Quanta Computers, Sun Microsystems, and Vitesse as well as, strong venture backing from Bessemer Venture Partners, Raza Venture Management, Sequoia Capital, US Venture Partners, and others. The company has major offices located in Santa Clara, CA, Yokneam and Tel Aviv Israel. For more information on Mellanox, visit www.mellanox.com.
