11/7/2003 - Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, announced that GarField Microelectronics Ltd. of Hants, United Kingdom, has become a MagmaTies Certified Design Center after successfully completing the certification process.
Additionally, it has established a design methodology based on Magma technology and has successfully taped out a number of integrated circuits (ICs). "We recently used Magma's Blast FusionTM to take a design from a register transfer level (RTL) netlist to tapeout in six working days, reducing our design implementation time by more than 40 percent," said Paul Garniss, technical director of GarField Microelectronics. Magma and GarField have already worked together on a number of projects, clearly demonstrating the advantages of the Magma approach over GarField's previous place-and-route tools. "With Magma's software and technical support, we will continue to be able to offer innovative solutions in all stages of the design process," Garniss said.
"Having been in the design service industry for 10 years, I know that to be successful in the current difficult climate we need good people and also good tools to support us," said Rod Oldfield, managing director of GarField Microelectronics. "We get this with Magma tools."
"We welcome GarField Microelectronics as a MagmaTies Design Center to better serve common customers," said Michael Ma, vice president of business development at Magma. "Garfield Microelectronics has the right combination of technical capabilities and market expertise making it an ideal partner for Magma."
Through the MagmaTies program, Magma and its partners work together to promote interoperability between Magma's solutions and other EDA software and to develop proven methodologies for getting complex designs to silicon quickly and efficiently. The MagmaTies Design Center Certification program provides members access to Magma solutions, dedicated technical support and sales opportunity referrals. To become a certified member, companies must excel in logic or physical design and be able to provide positive customer references. Also, prospects must complete technical seminars and demonstrate proficiency in using Magma tools.
With access to Magma software and training, certified Magma design centers can offer their customers comprehensive RTL-to-GDSII design capabilities. MagmaTies is open to companies that offer ASIC and semiconductor foundry services, complementary EDA software, design automation libraries, reusable designs and intellectual property (IP), and design services.
