11/7/2003 - Sybase, Inc. (NYSE: SY), a leading enterprise infrastructure and mobile software company, hosted its annual Asia Pacific User Conference (APUC) 2003 in Seoul, November 5 – 7, with more than 2,000 executives, IT managers, developers, database administrators and partners from around the world. Conference delegates learned from keynote presentations delivered by business intelligence industry expert, Dan Meers of The Inmon Meers Group, Korea’s IT leaders – Samsung SDS and LG CNS, and Sybase executives on the latest technology trends.

John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase, Inc. previewed the company’s Unwired Enterprise initiative, focused on helping organizations to manage and mobilize data, giving people access to business critical information at the right time and place. Sybase Unwired Enterprise solutions combine data management technology to transform data into useful, relevant and valuable information; and integration and mobile technology to ensure information is free-flowing and accessible, giving people the freedom to work anytime, anywhere.

“Organizations in the Asia-Pacific region are aware of the critical connection between enterprise information management and information mobility,” said John Chen, chairman, CEO and president of Sybase, Inc. “The advanced mobile and wireless infrastructure in the region, including proliferation of Wi-Fi technology, is a good foundation for expanding the mobile enterprise. With Sybase’s leadership in data management, mobile and wireless technology, we are ideally positioned to capitalize on that foundation providing access to critical business information anytime, anywhere through our Unwired Enterprise solutions.”

According to the Pyramid Research, the number of Wi-Fi hot spots will exceed 45,000 by the end of 2003, and more than 24,000 will be in Asia Pacific.

Sybase APUC delivered a highly technical and business agenda focused on product innovations, technology updates and business solutions. Through more than 90 technical and vertical industry sessions, attendees gained insight into the latest innovations in data management, integration and mobile and wireless technologies. The keynote sessions focused on e-Analytics, data management and development with Sybase and how organizations can transform themselves into Unwired Enterprises. For the first time, there was a local partner track for Korean partners. Delegates had hands-on experience with Sybase’s products at the “Test Drive” area of the exhibit hall.

The conference also highlighted the launch of the new Gideon 300 Partnership Program in Korea. Due to the high demand for its business intelligence solutions in Korea Sybase and its subsidiary iAnywhere Solutions has established this program to expand channel partner opportunities, particularly in business intelligence and mobile technology.
