11/6/2003 - Avnet Applied Computing Solutions -- a division of Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT) -- announced a new alliance with Rittal Corp., one of the leading global providers of electronic packaging products and enclosures. Through the alliance, Avnet Applied Computing Solutions will provide Rittal and its customers with the expertise and deep integration capabilities needed to produce fully integrated customized computing products based on Rittal's subracks and electronic enclosures. In addition, Avnet Applied Computing Solutions will now make Rittal's complete line of electronic enclosure systems available to its own customer base, consisting of embedded original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), independent software vendors (ISV) and value-added resellers (VARs).
"Avnet Applied Computing Solutions takes pride in providing its OEM, ISV and VAR customers with the technical and integration support they need to bring their custom embedded solutions to market quickly and ahead of the competition," said Dave Kull, vice president of embedded technologies, Avnet Applied Computing Solutions. "We're pleased to be able to bring our expertise in this area to Rittal and its customers, and we're equally pleased to make Rittal's product line available to our own customers, particularly Rittal's renowned CompactPCI and VME enclosures and high-speed backplanes."
"Rittal applies the right blend of resources to assist our customers through their product design process, from concept to prototype," said Tom Sutherland, general manager of Rittal's Kaparel group. "Avnet Applied Computing Solutions has an extensive network of systems engineers and service capabilities that complement Rittal's wide range of electronic subracks, high-speed backplanes, enclosures and kiosks. Together, we provide a competitive advantage for embedded computing companies looking to get an edge over their rivals through intelligent outsourcing."
Avnet Applied Computing Solutions' systems engineers are now able to step in and provide support for Rittal customers facing complex integrations. This assistance may include I/O and application integration, SBC integration, testing and final delivery to customers. Rittal's Kaparel group will continue to provide its customers with basic system component integration and integrated subassembly of the systems prior to getting Avnet involved.
"Customers with integrated embedded computer applications will now have the capability to tap into Rittal's expertise in embedded computing enclosures, as well as Avnet Applied Computing Solutions' complex integration capabilities, without sacrificing the simplicity a single point of contact offers," said Ken DuBois, key accounts director for Rittal's Kaparel group. "It's a win-win for companies looking for a world-class outsource alliance for their embedded computing products."
