ASE Addresses Rising Demand for IC Test Capacity with Agilent 93000

11/5/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that ASE Group, a leading semiconductor test service provider, has purchased 21 Agilent 93000 SOC (system-on-a-chip) Series test systems. These will enable ASE to capitalize on strong packaging and test demand in PC, graphics and wireless baseband chipsets, as well as penetrate the radio frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) test market.

ASE's additional purchase of these 93000 test systems further enhances the world's largest installed base of the single scalable Agilent 93000 SOC test platforms.

"ASE is poised to address the rising demand for contract test services that's being driven by integrated device manufacturers and fabless engineering companies," said Tien Wu, president of ASE, Americas, Europe and Japan. "ASE's close collaboration with Agilent provides great value and helps us serve our packaging and test customers better. This purchase will give our customers throughout the world greater access to Agilent's single scalable platform to test their new devices."

"I am pleased with this latest development in Agilent's long-term relationship with ASE," said Tom Newsom, vice president and general manager of Agilent's SOC Business Unit. "Our strategic relationship has been critical in helping both companies navigate through recent business challenges. As we look forward, Agilent is committed to fully supporting ASE's business development efforts, and optimizing production efficiency through advanced testing technology."

According to Gartner Dataquest(1), the worldwide semiconductor market will grow by 11 percent and 21.1 percent in 2003 and 2004, respectively. Consumer trends are driving the semiconductor industry to increase production volumes across a wide variety of application areas, leading to a more diverse mix of test challenges for ASE.

The Agilent 93000 SOC Series provides a single-platform solution for ASE's diverse testing needs. The Agilent 93000 features an upgradable architecture that allows ASE to keep pace with cutting-edge device test challenges. The Agilent 93000 is able to synchronize upstream and downstream testing technology requirements, and ensures above-average load rates, thereby increasing satisfaction among ASE's customers.

"Armed with Agilent's cost-effective, high-performance test platform, ASE is confident it can provide the sophisticated test capabilities needed to test the industry's wide range of emerging technologies," said Raymond Lo, president of ASE.

About the Agilent 93000 SOC Series
The Agilent 93000 SOC Series is the industry's fastest growing, lowest cost single, scalable platform with more than 600 systems installed worldwide. The Agilent 93000 SOC Series is designed to meet both demanding performance and cost challenges of SOC testing. Models are configured to span the widest range of applications that may require ultra-high-speed digital data rates up to 10 Gb/s, and the broadest range of mixed-signal and RF capabilities. With this range of capabilities, the 93000 SOC Series is the first choice for subcontract manufacturers (SCMs) and a favorite for high-volume manufacturing. More information is available at
