Power Management IC Customization is Most Important Factor for OEMs
11/4/2003 - In a recent survey by Venture Development Corporation, OEMs indicated that the ability to customize an IC was their most important selection criteria when choosing a vendor.
In the consumer market, mobile handsets, digital cameras and gaming consoles are consuming large quantities of power ICs. As consumers insist on more functionality, power requirements for these devices increase. As OEMs try to meet these requirements, they're finding that existing power management ICs are not sufficient. To address the issue OEMs are looking to vendors to provide necessary customization, including:
- maximized battery life between charges
- minimized charging times
- improved battery life
- a small footprint
Today's power management ICs must not only provide high efficiency, they must also be available in small packages to support highly compact footprints used in mobile designs.
