11/3/2003 - The Synchronicity Developer SuiteTM, the world's premier electronics design collaboration and management solution, has been re-architected for dramatic performance improvements. Leading semiconductor companies have been rolling out very large, enterprise-wide Developer Suite deployments and the new version stays ahead of those demands. Operations in version 4.0, now available to everyone, have already proven up to 40 times faster on large, real-world design projects at 4 leading semiconductor companies.
"Though our software already enabled our customers to bid on and execute bigger projects than ever before, they wanted even more speed and scalability," commented Patrick Romich, Synchronicity CEO. "So over the last year we made performance improvement our number one development priority and I am very pleased that Developer Suite 4.0 is really delivering. The Gantry Group recently found we provide a strong positive ROI in an independent study (www.synchronicity.com/roi/gg.htm) and these big performance gains enhance that return by further raising engineering productivity and accelerating time to market."
The Developer Suite supports the Open Access design database and has integrations into the Cadence Virtuoso Custom Design Platform and soon the Synopsys Galaxy Design Platform. It bundles ProjectSync®, which raises design predictability with multi-site project and issue tracking and communications, and DesignSync®, which makes design data safely available to the entire project team, no matter where they are located. Already accelerating large design projects at 13 of the top 15 semiconductor companies, the Developer Suite will now be able to connect teams with thousands of engineers.
Synchronicity carefully profiled common customer use models to identify the functional aspects that would provide the greatest scalability benefits. Key focus was given to core data management functionality that keeps large designs in sync, especially in distributed environments. The targeted customer use model has been increased to multi-million-file data sets, including files larger than 2 Gigabytes.
To improve performance and compatibility, ProjectSync has also been ported to the PostgreSQL database, the most advanced and widely used open source database. Synchronicity's advanced Hierarchical Configuration Manager (HCM), which enables engineers to manage projects in the same top-down manner that they think about them, has been more seamlessly integrated into the DesignSync command set and all the Developer Suite performance improvements also accelerate block based design with HCM.
Developer Suite V4.0 also delivers a new, highly customizable, Java-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) for its DesignSync design management client. The new look is more intuitive and easier to learn, so better accommodates the wide range of experience often found on today's large development teams. Since Java is widely used, the new GUI can also be more readily customized to the customer's needs. ProjectSync also has a new look and feel implemented in cascading style sheets. Additionally, an email-based interface has been added as a rapid response alternative to ProjectSync's full-featured web-based interface. These options enhance the suite's fit into the user's workflow and further improve the user's throughput.
A data management process, which covers large multi-site design teams, requires the automation of unique scenarios and EDA tools, so a new C-based Application Programming Interface (API) is now available for Developer Suite V4.0. The combination of the existing Tcl-based API and the new C-API provides an open mechanism to rapidly fit Developer Suite within any development process and with other EDA products.
The Developer Suite continues to be supported on all major platforms including Solaris, HP-UX, Windows, RedHat Linux and AIX. Reflecting the increasingly heterogeneous computing environment, support has been added in this release for Solaris 9, HPUX V11.11, Red Hat versions 7.3, 8.0, and 9.0, and Windows XP, as well as Netscape 7 and IE 6.
