10/31/2003 - At its Octoberfestival customer event in Augsburg, Fujitsu Siemens Computers presented its new Pocket LOOX 610 handheld. Professional users now have a ”portable office“ for their personal information management and a platform for mobile solutions – all in a single device. The handheld offers a multitude of new technical features, including the Intel® XScaleTM PXA 255 processor and the Microsoft® Windows MobileTM 2003 for Pocket PCs operating system, thus turning it into an office that not only fits in your pocket, but also one for which a large number of applications are already available. The Pocket LOOX 610 will go on sale in November.
Anyone spending a lot of time on the road either professionally or privately expects a lot from his or her handheld. In an ideal world, synchronizing databases, accessing corporate applications and the Internet, writing e-mails and more would be quick and convenient using an easy-to-carry handheld. Now, with the new Pocket LOOX 610, customers need no longer dream. And with the new transflective TFT TouchScreen, image presentation is remarkably clear, whether outdoors or indoors.
The two basic versions of the Pocket LOOX 610 feature extensive communication functions. While both have fully integrated Bluetooth and fast infrared interfaces, the Pocket LOOX 610 BT/WLAN also comes with integrated wireless LAN. The Pocket LOOX 610 BT also supports wireless LAN connections with an optional CompactFlash (CF) card, enabling users to send and receive e-mails with great ease, manage their contacts and appointment books and access customer data online. Users can also take advantage of the CF card on all models to access their corporate data via GPRS.
Replacing the old 600 model, the new Pocket LOOX 610 not only employs the new Intel XScale PXA 255 processor, but also a version of the Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 operating system optimized for this processor. For the user, this means faster applications and lower power consumption.
Reworked battery concept
The new battery concept allows customers to be without a network connection for longer periods of time. In addition, during battery changes, an integrated buffer ensures that the power supply continues to flow for up to 30 minutes. The battery supplied with the unit enables users to work for up to 12 hours. An XL battery permitting up to 20 hours of active work, however, can also be ordered.
The flexible connectivity concept allows the implementation of mobile applications such as SAP server data access, secure VPN solutions and mobility solutions based on thin clients. Moreover, the open system architecture of the Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs operating system allows the use of many third-party applications, such as auto-navigation and database systems. The integrated extension slots pave the way for a variety of applications already on the market that make use of CF and SD/MM cards, including barcode scanners, cameras, storage solutions or GPS navigation solutions.
