10/30/2003 - PLX Technology, Inc. (NASDAQ: PLXT) and Open Systems Resources, Inc. (OSR) announced the use of PLX® PCI technology in OSR's software-development seminars, highlighting PLX I/O interconnect technology's position as the standard across a wide range of industry platforms and applications. PLX, the leading supplier of standard I/O interconnect silicon to the communications, server, storage and embedded-control industries, is providing its PCI technology, in the form of PCI rapid development kits (RDKs), to OSR, the leading provider of systems-software solutions for Microsoft® (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows® environments, for OSR's Writing WDM Kernel Mode Drivers for Windows seminar.
The seminar, which emphasizes pragmatic instruction in a real-world, hands-on environment, is using as its development platform the PLX PCI9054RDK-LITE, based on the PLX PCI 9054 I/O Accelerator chip. The PCI 9054 is an advanced bus-mastering device enabling 32-bit, 33MHz PCI operation in CompactPCI adapters, PCI adapters and embedded systems.
"PLX I/O interconnect technology is recognized throughout the industry for the performance, reliability and ease of design it provides to advanced designs," said Larry Chisvin, vice president of marketing at PLX. "That OSR is using PLX rapid development boards in their seminars reflects how the industry recognizes PLX PCI silicon and reference design tools as the standard for I/O interconnect, both in hardware design and software development."
"Our seminars stress the use of real-world development tools and advanced peripheral hardware from which students can obtain feedback during the driver development process," said Elizabeth Armstrong, program manager at OSR. "What good is it learn to write sample code that talks to a 'black box' when you can learn to develop a fully-functional device driver for a PCI card based on an industry-standard chipset? Our students and customers use the knowledge gained in our advanced training to develop real-world, commercial products, and we need to provide them practical instruction and the most applicable learning environment to help ensure their success - or we haven't done our job," continues Armstrong. "In the end, we chose the PLX PCI 9054RDK-LITE for its proliferation in the industry and the technological advances it encompasses which Windows driver developers can take advantage."
Based on the powerful PLX PCI 9054 Bus Master I/O Accelerator chip, the PCI 9054RDK-LITE provides a cost-effective design environment for developing or upgrading high-performance networking, data communications and telecommunications systems and adapter boards using the PLX PCI 9054 I/O Accelerator chip. The PCI 9054RDK-LITE incorporates a PCI adapter board featuring the PCI 9054 and provides many various sized footprints supporting the industry's leading embedded RISC processors, such as IBM PowerPC, Motorola MPC PowerQUICC, Motorola Coldfire, Texas Instruments DSP, Analog Device DSP, Hitachi SuperH, and Integrated Device Technology MIPS. Also included is PLXMon® software, a comprehensive Windows-based GUI utility for debugging, configuration and code downloading.
