10/28/2003 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK), a leading provider of test, measurement, and monitoring solutions for mobile network operators, announced its first-to-market network monitoring solution to enable maintenance prioritization per base station.
Mobile subscribers who travel outside of their provider's service area are transferred to another operator's network. These subscribers, referred to as "in-roamers", represent a large revenue opportunity for operators yet they are also the most likely users to shift to a competitors network if experiencing poor service. To prevent this, operators must prioritize their maintenance and monitoring activities to the base stations with the largest presence of in-roamers; however, current monitoring solutions only allow operators to analyze the quality of the network service. Tektronix' new Roaming Service Tracker (RST), available on its NET-X platform adds the ability to assess the frequency of in-roamers' activities by base station, providing a unique ability to prioritize maintenance tasks before network issues become apparent to the user while maintaining quality of service.

Custom Reports Enable Prioritization
Operators must understand cells where they are gaining in-roamers or cells where they potentially may lose them. Unlike current roaming analysis solutions that focus solely on cell quality, Tektronix' NET-X RST monitors the A interface, enabling the measurement of network cell quality and the detection of cells that are providing low service quality to in-roamers, enabling identification of weak points that impact operators' revenue.
Operator technicians can use the reports generated by Tektronix' RST to verify the Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including checking the cells ranking in order to control both the quality and the in-roamers utilization trends. RST will also point out if the operators are gaining in-roamers from competitors, thus highlighting competitors' weakness areas. After analyzing the reports, the user will have a complete view of the Radio Access Network (RAN) quality with the in-roamers' utilization index split per cell. It is here, where the prioritization of maintenance activities can be done.
