10/28/2003 - Nazomi Communications, Inc., the inventor of universal and scalable solutions for boosting the performance of multimedia and JavaTM applications and Digital Aria, Inc, a leading provider of Mobile Flash technology announced that Digital Aria's unique Mobile Flash Animation engine has been adapted to be accelerated by Nazomi's JA108 multimedia application processor. This will result in Mobile Flash Animation frame rates of 15 frames per second. SK Telecom, Korea's largest cell phone service provider, has agreed to utilize the enhanced Flash capability in its GIGA platform.
With Nazomi's JA108 Multimedia Application Processor added to Digital Area's Flash processor, Flash animation performance can now be increased three to five times, to rates of 15 frames per second. This means that SKT's subscribers will be able to view animation content in a movie-like quality.
"Digital Aria's new and innovative Flash Animation solution will bring a new source of revenue for the carriers across multiple platforms. Combined with Nazomi's JA108 application processor, this enables us to deliver to wireless carriers and in turn their cell phone customers, the highest Flash performance in the most cost effective manner," said DukHo, Doug Jang, President of Digital Aria. "Nazomi's processor chip is a very innovative and cost effective solution. We look forward to working with Nazomi to continue bringing ongoing value-add services to the mass consumer base across the globe."
"Nazomi's JA108 is a unique application processor capable of accelerating any multimedia function. The fact that our JA108 chip has taken the Digital Aria's Flash Animation performance to a new level is yet another example of how we are accelerating multimedia applications in wireless handsets," said Mukesh Patel, president and CEO of Nazomi. "Digital Aria is clearly a leader in providing innovative mobile flash animation solutions and together we contribute significantly toward making the multimedia experience richer, faster and more efficient for SKT's customers."
About the GIGA Project
The GIGA Project is a next-generation mobile phone project promoted by SK Telecom. Multimedia is a buzzword in the mobile Internet market. Reflecting this trend, carriers and device manufacturers are devising releases of multi-functional high-end phones with features such as a camera, color screen and multi-poly sound. The GIGA project is aimed to build an environment from which users can download and play the mobile rich media such as mobile 3D or mobile flash in high-end devices with acceleration chip (ex. Nazomi JA108 etc). SK Telecom, handset manufacturers, chip manufacturers, solution providers and content providers participate in the GIGA project for promoting a mobile Internet market. GIGA phones enhance the performance of applications and dramatically increase the performance (show 5-6 times graphic processing performance than general phone) of multimedia (2D/3D Graphics, Video, Audio, Animation and JPEG image) while reducing power consumption.
About Digital Aria Flash Animation Technology
Digital Aria's Mobile Flash is a software solution that allows mobile users to enjoy Flash animations in mobile environment. Though Flash has been widely recognized as best rich media, its contents have been limited only on wired-Internet. Mobile Flash consists of the technology to play the Flash contents on mobile devices including the cellular phones and PDA's, the technology to produce Mobile Flash contents to fit the wireless Internet environment, and the server technology to service the Mobile Flash contents on the wireless internet. Mobile Flash developed by Digital Aria is the first commercial product and patent-pended technology.

About Nazomi's JA108
The JA108 Chip, built on innovative and patented technology, is designed to offload the task of executing performance demanding multimedia applications from the baseband processor in wireless handheld devices. It accomplishes this without requiring additional memory, new tools or new porting efforts. The chip, which interfaces like a standard SRAM device, is a stand-alone Application Processor for Java and multimedia platforms that can be easily integrated into new and existing designs by using the memory bus. The chip is available in an 8x8 mm 132 ball TFBGA 0.5 mil pitch configuration.
The JA108 works with any baseband processor, chipset, system on chip (SoC), or microprocessor and is transparent to existing designs and legacy operating systems. It also gives designers the freedom to choose any Java Virtual Machine (JVM) or real-time operating system (RTOS). The JA108 is designed to offer the highest multimedia application performance while balancing space, power, cost and time to market.
