10/28/2003 - Offering a unique design solution for seismic data acquisition, geophysical instruments and geophysical application markets, Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) has introduced two new products, the CS3301 geophone amplifier and the CS3302 hydrophone amplifier.
The CS3301 and CS3302 are highly integrated programmable-gain differential amplifiers engineered for seismic and geophysical applications that require very precise measurements. Designed for use with geophone sensors, the CS3301 delivers impressive low-noise, low-drift performance down to 0.1 Hz. While also retaining outstanding noise and drift characteristics, the high-input impedance of the CS3302 makes it ideal for use with hydrophone sensors. Cirrus' patented MultipathTM amplifier technology was leveraged to provide manufacturers of seismic equipment amplifier solutions with outstanding noise performance, low power consumption and low total-harmonic distortion (THD). A high level of integration further enables manufacturers to implement smaller, lighter equipment designs, which often result in reduced deployment costs for land-based systems and lower environmental background noise for marine-based systems.
Multiplexed inputs simplify system design and allow for built-in testing of sensors, acquisition channel and full-system quality control. Significant reductions in board space and increased performance can be realized by combining the Cirrus CS3301/02 differential amplifiers, the CS5371/72 Delta-Sigma modulators, the CS5376A digital filter and a planned, soon-to-be-announced seismic test digital-to-analog converter. This will allow designers to quickly and easily design a synchronous, high-resolution multichannel measurement system.
"Cirrus continues to leverage its analog technology leadership to deliver new semiconductor solutions for this important field of geophysics," said Jac Coupe, Seismic Product marketing manager, Cirrus Logic. "Low power consumption, low noise performance and -118 dB typical THD performance in a 24-pin SSOP package make the CS3301 and CS3302 ideal solutions for designers of seismic marine, land and reservoir monitoring systems and geophysical instruments for seismology, such as treaty monitoring and earthquake measurements applications."
Pricing and Availability
The CS3301 and CS3302 are sampling now, with volume production expected in December 2003. Both are available in 24-pin SSOP packages and are priced at $8.88 in volumes of 10,000.
