10/24/2003 - For the fourth consecutive year, Forbes Magazine's Forbes.com selected http://www.avnet.com/, as one of the best business-to-business (B2B) Web sites. The Fourth Annual "Best of the Web B2B Guide" recognized the Web sites of 85 companies in 21 industries. In the electronics industry category, avnet.com was chosen as a Forbes.com favorite.
According to Forbes.com, "In our July 2000 edition experts predicted widespread disintermediation and obsolescence as corporate buying and selling moved to cyberspace. Well, it turns out that while almost all companies have embraced the Web, they find it most beneficial for marketing and advertising, and for exchanging information with customers. Buying and selling is still largely done offline. Still online B2B is expanding but not at revolutionary speeds - it's more evolutionary. According to IDC and the World Information Technology Services Alliance, global B2B e-commerce will amount to about $1.4 trillion in 2003, 75% higher than 2002. Best of the Web is still tracking B2B's progress."
"The Web has endless possibilities as a dynamic communications and e-commerce venue. Avnet.com serves a wide range of global audiences, including customers, suppliers, vendors, investors, the media, employees and the community at large, and as a result, it must provide a wealth of information and content that is easy for users to navigate," said Ed Kamins, CIO at Avnet. "Avnet is committed to providing leading edge IT solutions to meet and exceed the current and future expectations of our various constituencies."
In addition to the Forbes recognition, www.avnet.com also ranked No. 3 on Best Practices in Corporate Communication's "Corporate Web Site Study 2002 Report," primarily due to its thorough content. To make avnet.com even more useful for visitors during the last year, Avnet expanded its investor relations content and added an online press room and a Quality section.
