Cirrus DSP Chipset Provides Audio for KiSS, Jamo Receivers

10/22/2003 - Cirrus Logic Inc. (Nasdaq: CRUS) announced that Denmark's KiSS Technology A/S has selected Cirrus' DSP chipset for use in KiSS' DP-470 DVD receiver and Jamo's DVR-50 receiver, the first DVD receivers in the world to support both DivX® technology and MPEG-4 decoding. The Cirrus chipset provides the audio processing functions for the receiver, adding decoding support for the DTS® (Digital Theatre Surround), Dolby® Digital and Dolby Pro Logic® II audio standards. The KiSS DP-470 DVD receiver will also be marketed by Danish OEM Jamo A/S as the DVR-50, and both are available now through major retailers in Europe, the United States and Asia.

Cirrus' ability to deliver a comprehensive, high-performance, cost-effective audio solution was a major factor in KiSS' decision to select the Cirrus DSP chipset. The chipset is comprised of the CS493264 audio decoder (part of the CS49300 family), the CS5333 analog-to-digital converter, the CS4340 digital-to-analog converter, the CS8416 S/PDIF receiver and the CS8405A S/PDIF transmitter. This chipset provides support for the Dolby Digital, Dolby ProLogic II, DTS® Digital Surround, AAC, multichannel MPEG and MP3 audio formats, making it one of the industry’s most complete audio processing solutions available.

“Cirrus has a rich heritage in the audio market, and it was a natural choice for us to select them to provide audio processing technology for our new DVD receiver,” said Bo Lustrup, marketing manager, KiSS Technology. “The performance of this chipset, balanced with the best price point, make this an ideal solution for our new state-of-the-art DVD receiver.”

“The DVD market is now recognized as one of the fastest growing segments of the digital entertainment market, and companies such as KiSS and Jamo are leading the way in developing exciting and technologically advanced products,” said Mike Noble, vice president of European Operations, Cirrus Logic. “Cirrus is well positioned to support these companies with our broad portfolio of audio and video processors. KiSS’ use of our DSP chipset underlines the value that we can bring to DVD manufacturers, and we’re delighted to have supported KiSS and Jamo with this design.”

The receiver offers playback of DivX technology and DVD scan technology that enhances the visual experience, along with an AM/FM tuner and a top quality 5x50-watt surround-sound amplifier. The DVR-50/DP-470 offers support for the widest range of audio/video formats, including progressive DVD, MPEG-4, DivX Video, CD/MP3, CD-RW, SVCD, VCD, DVD-RW and DVD+RW playback. The DVR-50 also offers a unique MP3 playback with an advanced user interface and a photo album feature for digital photo collections.
