Magma Strengthens Silicon Correlation by Acquiring Silicon Metrics

10/21/2003 - Magma Design Automation Inc. (Nasdaq: LAVA), a provider of chip design solutions, and Silicon Metrics Corporation, a library/IP characterization company, jointly announced Magma's acquisition of Silicon Metrics by merger. Silicon Metrics will become the foundation of Magma's newly created Silicon Correlation Division. The merger provides designers with access to models that deliver greater correlation to silicon, particularly in today's nanometer-based integrated circuit design process.

"In the early EDA implementations of IC design tools, accuracy of design implementation tools lagged those of the analysis tools," said Rajeev Madhavan, chairman and CEO of Magma. "With the adoption of RTL to GDSII, complex designs are done in an integrated flow. Magma, being the technology leader in this space, sees the silicon correlation and modeling issues that affect the design teams and foundries. We have developed several new unique models for crosstalk, glitch, delay and extraction that correlate very accurately to silicon at 90 and 65 nanometers.

Silicon Metrics: Superior Characterization
Silicon Metrics develops characterization and modeling tools for standard cells, memories and complex I/Os. SiliconSmart tools will continue to support other IC implementation flows, providing a baseline infrastructure for accurate library characterization for the semiconductor industry.

Silicon Correlation Division: Open Support of all EDA Tools
Magma's Silicon Correlation Division will retain the Silicon Metrics sales and support team to support customers using mixed or non-Magma design flows.
