The Capability Maturity Model for Software (CMM or SW-CMM) is a model for judging the maturity of software processes within an organization, and for identifying the key practices required to increase the maturity of those processes. It also defines a series of levels through which software organizations evolve as they define, implement, measure and improve their software development processes.
Level five is the pinnacle of CMM success, and calls for Continual Process Improvement, including Defect Prevention, Technology Change Management, and Process Change Management. According to CMM, Technology Change Management and Process Change Management involve identifying and incorporating effective technologies into an organization to help improve software quality, increase productivity and reduce the production lifecycle.
