10/10/2003 - Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe has won the Component Product of the Year award for its dual 14-bit 800MSa/s digital to analogue converter (MB86064), the world's fastest CMOS DAC.
The award was presented at the 2003 European Electronics Industry Awards ceremony at London's Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday 24th September. The awards, organised by Electronics Weekly, recognised the considerable achievements of companies and people in the European electronics industry.
An independent judging panel included representatives from companies, trade bodies and academia as well editors from the magazine. Judging was based on innovative design, time-to-market, meeting a customer need, overall commercial success and evidence that specific products have or will give the company an advantage over competitor products in the market.
The MB86064 is the first Application Specific Standard Product (ASSP) based on Fujitsu's next generation DAC technology. This ASSP is integral to the roll-out of Fujitsu's latest DAC technology, and enables new system architectures sought by customers. The price/performance point achieved results in the cost-effective realisation of high direct-IF multi-carrier systems for GSM, W-CDMA and UMTS. It provides an unrivalled solution to the problem of generating wider transmit bandwidths in cellular base stations.
Fujitsu provides a wide range of system design solutions from its Mixed Signal Division in Maidenhead, UK, where the product was developed. The development of this award-winning device reflects the company's position as the technology leader in high performance digital to analogue converters.
