Agilent's EDA Tools Speed RFIC Design for Thine Electronics

10/10/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that Thine Electronics Inc. has selected Agilent's high-frequency electronic design automation (EDA) tools to help speed RF integrated circuit (RFIC) design. Thine uses Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS) and RF Design Environment (RFDE) to develop wireless communications products such as buffer amplifiers for mobile phones and wireless LANs.

"It is very important for Thine Electronics to respond quickly to customer requirements and deliver superior products to the market," said Kazutaka Nogami, director, Business Unit III, Thine Electronics. "The ability to perform high-speed, frequency-domain simulation with Agilent's EDA tools has played an important role in the early release of our handset buffer amplifier RFIC, which was announced in July."

Thine Electronics uses ADS and RFDE to obtain frequency-based simulation results for their RFIC designs. This technique dramatically reduced the time Thine Electronics spent performing simulations compared with traditional, time-domain analysis. The improved simulation speeds were a deciding factor in Thine Electronics' decision to purchase additional seats of Agilent ADS and RFDE. Because Thine Electronics is a fabless company, the availability of a wide variety of foundry design kits for use with ADS and RFDE was also a factor in the purchasing decision.

Thine Electronics plans to continue introducing RF wireless communication large-scale integrated circuits, and to improve their IC performance by using the Agilent Ptolemy simulator in ADS for design and verification.

About Agilent Advanced Design System and Agilent RF Design Environment
Agilent ADS software offers a complete set of front-to-back simulation and layout tools for RF and microwave IC design in a single, integrated design flow. Agilent RFDE is an RF EDA software environment that tightly integrates leading RF simulation technologies from Agilent ADS into Cadence Design System's industry-standard analog and mixed signal design flow.
