10/7/2003 - Fujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) and Accemic have announced the availability of the first single-chip monitor debugger for Fujitsuís FR 32-bit microcontroller Series.
Accemic's MDE (Monitor Debugging Environment) enables powerful state-of-the-art debugging, and is the first tool to make possible debugging of Fujitsuís FR Series in single chip mode without the need for external RAM or evaluation chips. Using the new on-chip BDSU (Background Debug Support Unit) of Fujitsuís MB91F364G single CAN interface device, up to 6 breakpoints can be set.
A special feature, differentiating it from other comparable products, is the Processor Status Window, which shows all the internal peripherals of the MCU application, including which I/O ports are used, the port direction and status. Additional detailed Resource Windows exist, allowing the user to check and modify the internal register settings of dedicated peripherals. This makes it easy to see how the source code has initialised the peripherals and also to change them if necessary. It means users can immediately see the meaning of control registers without needing to refer to a data book, and allows fast switching of an I/O port using the Processor Status Window. As well as online monitoring, powerful messaging functions can be linked to the application, enabling the sending of data and messages to the PC screen.
Another feature of the new Accemic MDE version is the full integration of the real-time operating system embOS from SEGGER. SEGGER Microcontroller Systeme GmbH develops and distributes software development tools and ANSI "C" software components (middleware) for embedded systems in several industries.
The embOS viewer module allows the display of kernel resources and sophisticated real time analysis information. The monitor communication channel is used, therefore no additional serial communication line for the embOS viewer is required. A Monitor Access Authorisation function can be used to protect the target MCU firmware, even if the monitor kernel is available in the target MCU and the Flash Security Bit is set. This new function - using a DLL which requests a password or reads a single chip card etc. - is designed to allow PC access to the firmware, only for those with special authorisation.
Accemic offers a starter kit for the MB91F364G, developed in co-operation with Phytec, a German 3rd party vendor.
The Accemic MDE standard version for Fujitsuís FR Series is currently available and is expected to be presented in a professional version with multiprocessor support and extended communication links (CAN, SSC, 3Pin) shortly. It is distributed and supported worldwide via Accemic, distributors and on-line sales. A demo version can be found on the Accemic website http://www.accemic.com/modules.php?name=Downloads
