10/6/2003 - Express Logic, Inc., worldwide leader in royalty-free RTOS solutions, announced that its ThreadX® real-time operating system has been selected by Oki Semiconductor, Inc., as the preferred RTOS for its new line of entry-level 32-bit microcontrollers based on the industry-leading ARM7TDMI® microprocessor, and all related development platforms. The new Oki “Advantage” ML674000 and ML675000 series of microcontrollers are intended for use in home appliances, digital communications equipment, and industrial applications by developers migrating from 8-bit and 16-bit proprietary designs.
Oki plans to offer ThreadX as its preferred, supported RTOS solution, in conjunction with the ARM® RealView® Developer Kit for Oki, as a complete development tool set for product development. The ThreadX RTOS is small, efficient, and royalty-free, making it ideal for high volume commercial product developments based on Oki’s ML674000 and ML675000 microcontrollers. Express Logic has completed development of ThreadX for the ML674000 and ML675000 platforms, and Oki has completed validation of the RTOS for delivery as part of all development kits.
“Oki’s strategic RTOS partner is Express Logic’s ThreadX,” commented Akira Kamo, President of the Silicon Solutions Company at Oki Electric. Kamo continued, “this means ThreadX is already validated during development, our Application Engineer’s can readily answer questions about this RTOS, and all Oki standard tool configurations support this RTOS in development environments.”
Oki’s development platforms for the ML674000/ML675000 also include the ARM RealView Developer Kit, which fully supports ThreadX. The RealView Developer Kit for Oki is a comprehensive targeted tools package for writing, compiling, debugging, and integrating systems based on Oki’s ARM7TDMI core-based family of microcontrollers.
ThreadX is fully supported by the RealView development tools, including source code builds, kernel and application debugging, and extensive kernel awareness through the RealView debugger. “The ThreadX RTOS complements the software package supporting ARM core-based development on Oki’s new processors,” said Andrew Frame, product manager for RealView Solutions from ARM. “With the royalty-free ThreadX, ARM developers can use Oki’s Advantage Microcontroller for a wide range of cost-sensitive, high-volume applications. Our RealView Developer Kit for Oki fully supports these customers, enabling them to bring their ThreadX/ARM core-based products to market faster, more reliably, and less expensively.”
“Express Logic is honored to have been selected by Oki Semiconductor as their preferred RTOS partner for the new ML674000 and ML675000 microcontrollers,” commented David Lamie, vice president of sales for Express Logic. A key advantage for ML674000/ML675000 developers is the royalty-free pricing for ThreadX, enabling developers to minimize manufacturing costs and produce more profitable products.”
Express Logic’s ThreadX real-time operating system is a small, fast, royalty-free RTOS designed for embedded applications that demand small memory footprint, high efficiency, and low cost. ThreadX for the ARM architecture boasts extremely small memory requirements as well as very high performance. ThreadX also provides many advanced features, including a picokernelTM architecture, preemption-thresholdTM, optimized software timers, and priority inheritance. The ARM RealView Debugger integration further enhances development of advanced ThreadX applications for ARM Powered® products.
ThreadX supports the full line of Oki’s ARM core-based general-purpose microcontrollers, and operates in as little as 5Kbytes of ROM, leaving on-chip memory resources for application use, and minimizing the need for additional off-chip ROM.
