10/6/2003 - On the heels of the 2003 Intel Developer Forum, StarGen, Inc., a semiconductor company that supplies advanced serial switched interconnect solutions, is pleased to announce the ongoing development of its StarXpressTM product line. Based on the forthcoming Advanced Switching (AS) standard, StarXpress will provide high bandwidth serial switched interconnect solutions for next-generation communication, storage, server, and embedded system designs.
StarGen will be continuing its active participation in the development of the Advanced Switching specification as it transfers into the Advanced Switching Interconnect (ASI) SIG announced today. Within the Arapahoe Working Group, StarGen has made many key technical contributions to the AS specification and chairs a number of the sub-committees working on the Protocol Interface (PI) subsidiary specifications. StarGen anticipates taking a leadership role in both the technical and marketing workgroups within the new ASI SIG.
"Switching and bridging products, like those from StarGen, and its active participation in the ASI-SIG will help forward the widespread adoption of Advanced Switching technology," said Rajeev Kumar, ASI SIG president and Advanced Switching technology manager at Intel. "With the announcement of the Advanced Switching Interconnect SIG and the release candidate of the Advance Switching specifications today, the market is well on its way to delivering a robust Advanced Switching technology to the industry."
Building upon its experience and expertise gained in delivering StarFabric, the first generation PCI compatible switched serial interconnect technology, StarGen is currently developing its StarXpress family of products, slated for delivery in early 2005. The full StarXpress portfolio, including switches and bridges, will provide solutions for multiple protocols, topologies, and bandwidth requirements, specifically targeted for the server, storage, communication, and high performance embedded market segments.
"Advanced Switching will bring high performance open standard switched interconnect to the storage, server, communication, and embedded market segments, creating many new system design options," said Tracy Richardson, co-founder and president of StarGen. "StarGen has the technical expertise and market segment experience that positions us for leadership in the emerging Advanced Switching field. We are confident that StarXpress will be a dominant force in the marketplace."
The StarXpress switch family is based on a scalable core architecture enabling rapid deployment of a range of products with various port counts and lane widths to satisfy the unique requirements of a diverse set of applications from motherboard implementations to multi-rack chassis-based systems. StarXpress bridges will provide interfaces to AS fabrics for processors, DSPs, framers, protocol-specific end-points, and other standard interconnects.
StarGen is currently the leading supplier of PCI-compatible, high-performance, low overhead switching solutions, having shipped tens of thousands of ports of its StarFabric- based products. StarGen is currently in full-production with the SG1010 StarFabric switch, a high-speed serial switch, and the SG2010 PCI-to-StarFabric bridge and is sampling the SG3010 TDM-to-StarFabric bridge.
StarGen is a semiconductor company providing advanced serial switched interconnect solutions for compute and communications equipment. It is the leading designer of low-overhead, protocol-agnostic, open standards-based serial switched architectures, which enable system designers to bring new capabilities to their system while using existing standards-based parts. StarGen's currently shipping StarFabric product line benefits vendors of access communication platforms for voice, data, and video networks as well as vendors of embedded systems needing enhanced switched PCI capability. StarGen is also currently developing StarXpress, a complementary line of products built upon the Advanced Switching standard and compatible with PCI ExpressTM. These products will be ideal solutions for blade server, storage, and mid-range communications applications. StarGen's switched interconnect products provide a dramatic increase in equipment performance, scalability, reliability, and Quality of Service while maintaining backward compatibility to existing standards based hardware and software. StarGen (www.stargen.com) is headquartered in Marlborough, MA.
