10/3/2003 - Intoto Inc., a leading provider of security software, announced that Nuera Communications, Inc., a top-rated provider of Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) infrastructure solutions, has chosen Intoto’s VPN security software for its ORCA® BTX media gateway.
To provide VoIP services, a media gateway serves as the interface between the public switched telephone network (PSTN) and the IP network. The media gateway enables cable telephony subscribers to call, and to be called by, PSTN subscribers throughout the world. Intoto’s iGateway VPN provides security for the communication between a media gateway and a softswitch by offering privacy, confidentiality and authenticity of the transferred data.
“Our customers require very specific security features on the media gateway,” said Larry Greenstein, Director of Product Management, Nuera Communications. “Intoto’s iGateway VPN security solution provided the essential technology to help Nuera deliver a high-performance, PacketCableTM-qualified media gateway for the cable telephony industry.”
Intoto’s iGateway VPN solution offers a feature-rich, standards-based VPN software suite that is certified by third party organizations including Trusecure’s ICSA (International Computing Security Association) Labs and the VPN Consortium. The iGateway VPN solution supports advanced features such as PKI, hub and spoke, NAT (Network Address Translation) traversal, and extended user authentication. The iGateway VPN solution has support for high availability making it suitable for media gateway and VOIP infrastructure applications that require very high reliability. The iGateway VPN solution offers a highly flexible architecture that can scale to support over 100,000 simultaneous VPN tunnels and can support the use of simultaneous cryptographic processors for building high performance security appliances.
”Secure VoIP over cable has huge potential, and Nuera is a leader in the cable telephony market," said Sathyan Iyengar, President and CEO of Intoto Inc., “Intoto offers high performance security solutions and we are excited to be part of Nuera’s products.”
Nuera’s ORCA BTX media gateway, with the implemented iGateway VPN, received PacketCable 1.0 qualification in July 2003 based on the BTX's compliance with PacketCable specifications and interoperability with other PacketCable-compliant products. The ORCA BTX media gateway is available today from Nuera, and is in field trials with two major cable operators planning to offer voice services.
