10/2/2003 - Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: SUNW) announced the winners of its thirteenth annual Supplier Awards program. The Supplier Awards honor those companies who make outstanding contributions to deliver superior quality and value to Sun Microsystems' customers.
The awards program has three levels: Meritorious Performance, Best-in-Class, and one overall Supplier of the Year. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. of Seoul, Korea won this year's Supplier of the Year award for its work supplying Sun with advanced memory devices and state-of-the-art custom memory solutions for Sun's high-performance servers, workstations and storage systems.
This is the second time Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. has received Sun's highest honor - the Supplier of the Year award - and it should be noted that while winning once is in itself an extraordinary task, to win a second time requires an even higher level of performance and dedication to Sun's changing requirements.
Best-in-Class winners include Benchmark Electronics, Inc., Neilsen Manufacturing, Inc., Sony Corporation - Electronic Device Division and Sony Corporation - Micro Systems Network Company.
Meritorious Performance awards were awarded to Agere Systems, DecisionOne, Exel, Plc., Fujitsu Storage Products Group, Infineon Technologies' Memory Products Group, JDS Uniphase Corporation, LSI Logic Corporation, Modus, Pinnacle Data Systems, Inc., PrO Unlimited, Inc., Seagate Technology, Solectron Corporation and USCO Logistics.
