1/30/2003 - Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT), the global leader in data storage access solutions, has once again set the benchmark for Ultra320 SCSI performance leadership with a controller that produces peak performance up to 60 percent faster than comparable products from LSI Logic.
Adaptec's data transfer performance of 546 megabytes per second over two channels easily surpassed the 520 megabytes per second benchmark claimed by LSI Logic as "the maximum achievable throughput"* from Ultra320. Over two controllers, Adaptec's Ultra320 SCSI controllers deliver an industry-leading 1.09 gigabytes per second.
In Adaptec sequential read and write tests with 10K RPM Ultra320 SCSI disk drives, Adaptec's Ultra320 products outperformed comparable LSI Logic Ultra320 controllers by 60 percent in backup and replication applications and 20 percent in server environments.
In input/output operations per second, a key measure of online transaction processing (OLTP) application performance, Adaptec Ultra320 controllers have reached peak performance of 105,000 input/output operations per second, also the industry's fastest.
"Adaptec's leading Ultra320 performance is winning designs with the world's top workstation and server makers and driving Adaptec's continued leadership in the channel," said Ahmet Houssein, vice president and general manager of Adaptec's Storage Solutions Group. "Across the board, whether in backup and replication, server or workstation environments, Adaptec's Ultra320 controllers are the industry's fastest."
Adaptec Ultra320 First Choice of Industry Leaders
Building on industry-leading performance, technology and customer support, Adaptec Ultra320 products are the choice of more than 10 top server and workstation OEMs and motherboard manufacturers, including Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, Hewlett-Packard, NEC, Quanta, Microstar, MSI and SuperMicro.
Adaptec Ultra320 First with Resellers
In the channel, Adaptec was the first supplier to begin shipments of Ultra320 SCSI and RAID controllers, leveraging the company's close ties with leading drive manufacturers Maxtor and Seagate to meet early reseller and system-builder demand.
"Adaptec's Ultra320 SCSI RAID controllers are two times faster than their Ultra160 cards, and those cards are considerably faster than everyone else's," said Samuel Flory, lead R&D engineer for reseller Rackable Systems. "In my opinion, the Adaptec SCSI RAID 2200S, an Ultra320 controller, is the fastest RAID card on the market. The price/performance of this card is just incredible."
"We use nothing other than Adaptec products for our higher-end systems because of their flawless track record of delivering cutting-edge solutions that meet our customers needs, and our Ultra320 systems will be no different," said Roger Verma, vice president of engineering for Offmyserver. "The Adaptec-Seagate Ultra320 solution provides the performance, reliability and capacity to meet our customers' growing bandwidth requirements."
Adaptec Ultra320 First with RAID Everywhere
Beyond performance, Adaptec is the only supplier to integrate data protection capabilities in its entire family of Ultra320 solutions, a critical feature for server customers requiring the highest levels of system uptime.
"Data protection is extremely important to our customers," said Kevin Koski, field engineer for Now Micro. "Adaptec's HostRAID integrated RAID is fantastic - a great no-charge option that Adaptec now offers with all of its Ultra320 SCSI cards."
