1/28/2003 - Embarcadero Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: EMBT), a leading provider of application and database lifecycle management solutions, introduced Describe® for Sun[tm] ONE Studio and announced that Sun Microsystems, Inc. has selected Describe as the preferred UML modeling solution for its Sun ONE Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE). The Sun ONE user community will be the first to leverage new functionality and usability features in Describe 6.0. Describe for Sun ONE Studio 4 update 1, Enterprise Edition, which is immediately available for download, provides Java technology developers with a tightly integrated, model-driven development environment.
"As the industry's leading independent UML modeling tool, Describe complements Sun ONE Studio and will further enhance application developer productivity," said Mark Herring, senior director of marketing, Java Web services and tools, Sun Microsystems. "Sun developers can have access to a comprehensive, model-driven solution within the familiar development environment of Sun ONE Studio that will help reduce time to solution by seamlessly bridging the gap between leading-edge model-driven development approaches and powerful tools for writing, deploying and testing Java code."
Describe enables application modelers and developers to work together in One seamless design and development environment, eliminating the inherent friction and inefficiencies that have long existed between these processes. The newest version, Describe 6.0, is an entirely re-architected UML-driven integrated modeling development environment leveraging the latest in common standards and progressive graphics. This release also adds enhanced usability with UML model and Java source code synchronization, advanced source code control integration and advanced Web-based reporting. Describe is designed to provide application modeling functionality directly within the IDE, providing developers a familiar and productive development environment. Describe also includes a bridge to ER/Studio®, Embarcadero's database design tool that allows an application to be developed with the database model in mind and vice versa, creating better, more efficient applications in less time.
"The pressure on organizations to deliver high-quality applications continues to grow, requiring a streamlined process that eliminates the traditional friction and inefficiencies between application modeling and development," said Greg Keller, director of design and modeling products with Embarcadero Technologies. "The level of seamless integration we have achieved between modeling and the developer's IDE in the 6.0 release will ensure a dramatic reduction in time-to-delivery for Sun One developers modeling their code. We look forward to extending our relationship with Sun to further improve the quality of application development for Sun developers."
