1/28/2003 - Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) announced that QinetiQ Group plc has selected Agilent Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools to help accelerate time to market for its millimeter-wave integrated circuit (IC) designs. Agilent Advanced Design System (ADS) tools, which are supported by leading monolithic microwave integrated circuit (MMIC) foundries worldwide, will help QinetiQ to continue to design advanced MMICs by reducing or eliminating prototype iterations.
"With Agilent ADS' broad foundry design kit availability, we no longer need to rely on generic models that do not match the performance of the physical parts," said Dave Bannister, QinetiQ's technical applications manager, MMICs. "The support of the foundries for the ADS platform allows us to build designs, with fewer prototypes, which meet our customers' specifications. The foundry support, coupled with world-class simulation technology, makes ADS our platform of choice."
Agilent ADS tools offer advanced simulation technology and usability software for system, RF and digital signal processor engineers creating complex communication systems. QinetiQ will use Agilent ADS tools, in conjunction with design kits developed by MMIC foundries, to simulate design performance and verify adherence of microwave and millimeter-wave ICs to specification prior to fabrication. The design kits consist of a set of component libraries, models, and interconnects that represent the fabrication process for a particular foundry. Agilent ADS tools are supported by leading MMIC foundries worldwide, resulting in a broad range of foundry options for customers.
"This agreement allows us to better support QinetiQ's development of custom-designed ICs for high-frequency applications," said Jim McGillivary, vice president and general manager for Agilent EEsof EDA. "The future of MMIC design in Europe is bright, and we're very pleased to have QinetiQ adopt and benefit from our array of system and circuit simulation technologies."
QinetiQ has over 50 years' experience in the development of advanced Microwave and Millimeter-wave design services that include highly integrated, full custom MMIC product designs on a broad spectrum of GaAs and Indium Phosphide processes. This service is complimented by QinetiQ's expertise in the design, prototyping, production and test of highly integrated Microwave and Millimeter-wave subsystems, up to 100 GHz. In recent years, the company has increased its presence in a wide range of commercial market sectors, including security, automotive, aerospace and communications. Specific application areas addressed by recent designs include LMDS/MVDS, Satellite communications, Passive mm-wave imaging and EW(ESM).
